The 6GV8 in that circuit is doing it very easy and would likely last forever when under-run like that.

The triode was never intended for grid leak bias and may be the cause of the distortion. What's the voltage on Pin 1?

BTW, do you want to sell some 11-99's? I'm looking for a number of these to add a Bluetooth module to (keeping the AM of course) as Grandpa birthday gifts.

Hmm, I might just take you up on the offer, as long as you pick them up.

If you want to do that, I'll see if I can find the other 11-99s I thought I had. I'll keep the red and white one, you can have the rest.

I have received as an article and tidied it up, for the radio clubs newsletter, the circuit for an 11-99 complete with voltages the owner has both versions and the one with the half wave OA210 instead of a half wave wired 6V4, seems to be a better performer and nothing seems to have been altered for the extra 20V.

No mention of any distortion; In the article . As I have noted: My normal attack for a set sees it aligned with an Oscilloscope and the distortion would be spotted quick smart. Then the Oscilloscope would be used to endeavour to find the source.

I've repaired two 11-99's, one brown and the other white.
While it's been a long while since I've used the brown one for a extended period, I did notice with the white one the same issue that Robert has described.
Next time I'm back home I'll have to check that resistor and see if it maybe the cause.
Both of mine have a silicon rectifier and had paper caps originally but I can't recall if they were mica or not.
It will be a while before I can sus it out as I've moved to Melbourne for uni (RMIT) doing electronic engineering with an associate degree which will then take me onto the bachelors
