Lost 3 near new tyres in the last 6 weeks because of these weak bastards. And no its not accidental , the tyre man said it was impossible where the screws were. Being in the inside sidewalls 3cms from the top and properly inflated no screw would be able to work its way in by itself.
WTF are these people thinking? Do they even think about the people their actions could injure or kill?

Somebody may have it in for you? Do you have dash cam installed?
My gripe with screws and tyres is that tradies spill screws and nails from the back of their utes/4WDs. I have two flat tyres at the workshop complex from such screws, as have other occupants. I'm now in the routine of walking around and picking them up off the driveways as I see them. I have a tin of such finds on my bench.
Another such hazard at the complex is bent nails falling out of old fork lift pallets.

I have had two flats over the years caused by nice shiny bright screws, but in the tread so presumably not malice aforethought..

If they were in the tread then the tyre would be repairable and the screw would be bent. Its a physical impossibility that the screws were accidentally pearcing the tyre where they are now and it was straight. Also losing two tyres a few weeks back to the same circumstances is more than a coincidence.
Put it this way! The screw where I found it would have had to be held in place and screwed in. It would be impossible to be there accidentally when the tyre was rotating .
GTC I am thinking about dashcam

The reason the walls of a tyre get attacked (with screws, nail guns, Stanley knives, etc) is because a good repair is less likely, meaning a replacement tyre is almost certain. The thinner rubber also means the attack is easier to carry out.
Dashcams won't assist unless the vandal is in its field of view and the camera is either triggered by its G sensor (unlikely in this situation) or the camera rolls 24/7 powered by a second battery.

or the camera rolls 24/7 powered by a second battery.
The only type of dash cam worth installing, especially if you suspect vandalism.

A second battery is an easy option. I have one in my car though because it is a station wagon rather than a 4x4, there's little room under the bonnet for it so I sit it in the nearside rear passenger footwell when I need it and it connects to a 400W inverter to provide 240V to my camping fridge, phone charger and a few LED globes hung around the campsite. It feeds from the accessories bus on the car's fuse carrier via a DC-DC converter rated at 20A for recharging of the second battery and it also provides the isolation required to stop the inverter draining the car's original battery.

A GoPro or similar is triiggered by movement in the field of view and can run for days on its internal rechargeable battery. I've seen video of wildlife (deer, feral pigs) captured at night with one of these.
