Hello Folks.

Does anyone else but me have trouble loading pages on this website ?

MOST of the time, pages take 30+ seconds to load, if they do at all. Strangely, I rarely ever get a notice saying Time Out.
This problem exists over my two telephones, and the two computers that I use, so I do not think it is browser related. Other sites are no problem.

I would post articles to other vintage sites, but feel that my projects would be of less relevance in the British Isles, or anywhere other than Australia.

What did the late Ross Higgens, aka Ted Bullpitt say ? God it's hard.

Wayne.

Yes, and quite frequently lately I get timeouts with 500 error.

Brad has mentioned that the web host he is using is proving a poor service and that he's considering bringing the hosting back in house.

500 errors are a common occurrence here too.

Maybe we could all chip in and throw some coin Brad's way so he can find a better host ??

It just won't work for me , perhaps it's worse from this Area I'm in ,but I can"t access the site mostly and if I do pages don't open. The wheels just turn , posts get lost . I have even let it sit and 10 minutes then the page loads but it than fails again.... I'm not having issues with any other forums or sites so it may not be my location that's making it more difficult to access..I got on today ,but most I get on and the wheels just turn ...pete

Guys, I feel your pain but please don't keep starting new threads on this subject. It's being worked on and money isn't an issue - time is. I just don't want to get bitten by incompetence again but at the same time it's not a simple matter of moving the site's files from one host to another.

Brad I know you are working hard at it but I too am having very slow page loads.
Sometimes I have to abandon.
I know you'll get it sorted Smile

A number of error 500's today. Then after a while it recovered. Mysterious.

Today at around 11pm I was able to access the site and the pages worked.
That's probably the first time I've not had major issues in weeks .. tonight it worked!!!!!

Over the last three days I have been trying to shift the site to a different part of my hosting account. Tonight I shifted the databases which completes the job however I am still not too impressed with the performance. This is an old site but it should work better than it is.

I'll let things go for a few days and see how it all goes. Feel free to provide feedback here but please do it in this thread and not a new one.

The thing that makes this webhost crap is that its control panel is even slower than VR! Work that one out.

Beats me. I have never experienced, on any other forum site, the bizarre range of performance issues that we now see on V-R.

My usual experience these days is that either I get an immediate error 500, or an endless period of no response with no timeout -- like something's in a loop, or disconnected from reality -- a zombie process. I have to use the back button to quit that zombie state.

On occasions when I do get an immediate response, I quite often find that any subsequent clicks on subjects will result in slow response from then onward.

It's as if I get one bite at a time slice cherry and after that I am put in a zombie queue.

Time of day doesn't seem to be a factor -- I'm getting sluggish response now at 1:12am.

If I get a chance, I am going to set up a mock server this weekend and do some testing with a copy of the current site. I am sure the site itself is fine. My sticking point is that I do not have a LAN anymore and will have to try and borrow some heardware to make one. I just connect to the Internet with my phone now.

If I can get that going I will leave everything running for a few weeks and see how it goes. If all was well, I'd probably invest in an NBN connection and take the job back for myself. That comes with some risk, I know, given that the NBN isn't exactly a known quantity. Note to remember: I won't use TPG.

Hi Brad,

Just a little feedback...

When logging into the site I put in User name then Password
and when I click the login button I go straight to error 500 page.

If I click the back button to go back to the main page then click on the forum link, I find that I am logged in already.

This has happened since about Thursday.

Regards,
Michael.

I have also experienced what Old Mick describes above.

I may be Jonahing myself by saying this, but in the last few days response times for me have been quite good.

I will check on the login and logout this arvo.

Last week I shifted the site to a different part of my account and whilst there's been a slight improvement in reliability, I may need to adjust a few scripts to suit the new location.

I'll report back with progress.
