Here is a new one.
Got an SMS stating "Your NAB banking access has been suspended".
And then the usual instructions to proceed to some http address and follow the prompts.

As usual the problem there for them is, 1/ I do not have any NAB accounts and 2/ I am not stupid!

Previous scams this year have have been:
Netlflix threatening to cancel my streaming service, (dont have one)
NSW Gov Services wanting to check and correct my details for some payment owing to me or I wont get it.
Federal Goverment threatening to delay my Tax return unless I log on at some http address and confirm my financial details!
Combank threatening to shut my account down unless I send a payment to http whatever.
Hotmail advising that my email access will be terminated unless I do something , or else, right now.
And, someone was going to send the police around unless I did something right now involving money. (I have forgotten the details about that one something about my citizenship status).

Never give up do they?

Fred.

Yep, scams have got much worse since the virus and I bet it will get much worse towards the end of the year when the plug is pulled on stimulus. There was article on news saying the scams have got much worse since the virus.
I never respond to any emails asking for details.
I also never leave my correct birth details on any site I belong too.
If join a site or group why do they asked for birth details?
It's irrelevant .
Facebook is full of scams and there is one going around at the moment where there asking for money to save their dear old dog who needs an operation. I don't even use my real name on FB and never have my correct details on any site . Don't respond to any emails asking for details, If it's real than they will contact you .
Mind you I don't have any pot of gold or money so any scam is going to be very disappointed.

Pete

I've got those before, more often by e-mail.

Some of the e-mails look quite accurate too, which shows the efforts that these thieves and con-artists are going to to get their hands on our money.

I've even had them come in from Australia Post, claming that "the mailman" has something for me and I just need to pay the customs duty before I can receive it. Big problem - Australia doesn't have mailmen, we have posties, a term that even the post office uses.

So whilst these idiots get the message looking schmick, they stuff up Australian nomenclature.

In most cases it is. Unless a site is one where commercial trading is done, no-one needs to know who you are or when you were born.

Under Australian law, a website owner is legally obliged to be able to contact site members under certain circumstances (as such, I need an accurate database of e-mail addresses) but aside from that, very little else is needed.

I get bombarded with this crap virtually daily & any thought that you have that Telstra, NBN, & Government are onto it should be regarded as a dream.

We have "Nicole from NBN" who has been operating for years, Some other arse looking for your credit card number as a method of ID (of your account so they can empty it); Then the ongoing for decades various sob story transfer of funds scams (again looking for your a/c Nr); False accounts with a virus attached; and recently a couple of false Telstra phone accounts claiming overdue accounts, There is a variant of those where they could not process the payment.

Western Union & a few others with fake packages are also popular and often carry a virus. Telstra one is a dead give away as I resist online billing.

Its just vigilance & Caveat Emptor applies.

Marc

I've managed to avoid most of those. I have no social media presence, which might help. The usual Nigerian free money scams do appear from time to time.

The last one came from my local council saying I could get my land valuation online by setting up an account at the Valuer-General's site (used to be Dept of Lands). They want you to provide your medicare details, which are supposed to be only available to the medical profession. So I got out of there quick smart. If they want to email me, they can get my email address from the council. I shouldn't have to do anything.

Since the Virus started, I haven't received any scams, fortunately.

I noticed that while China was in lock down we received far less telemarketing calls on the landline.
Might be just coincidence, not sure but they are back to normal now (damnit !)

Gee I had forgotten about "Nicole" from the NBN.
We used to get calls from "her" saying our phone and internet was about to be disconnected if we did not sign up with the NBN.
We just propped the phone against the kitchen radio for 15 minutes each time.
Funny thing was she was always gone by the time we remembered to cradle the phone again!
The NBN have given up now, supposedly 95% of the country is connected now.
More fairy stories.
Fred.

What I like to do is when they call with a very asian or indian accent and say something like "Hello, my name is Bill" I respond with "No it isn't"
and hang up.
It's kind of satisfying.
