It's only a 40 minute run from here . It's on historic rego and with all the Covid 19 stuff have not had much of a chance to use it .

Completely understand!
That's why I jump in the car and go to the mountains up around Bright and Mt beauty, mind you that was one reason I had to get tested for corona, because I had been up in the Bright area where they had a couple of cases.
This Friday I'm going to Canberra because I can't buy some needs here in Albury and I can't go to Melbourne because of the restrictions now.... Now I know what old Russia must of felt like.

I don’t know why but it finally clicked that I did go to Albury last year which was my first and only time.
On the way back we stopped and I managed to get a copy of AWV radio and television which are always a joy to read.
Definitely a nice place.
Gee a drive to Melbourne would be a fair trip!
Mentioning the soviets you know the octane in their petrol was only 77%! Not our 90+ that’s for sure!
I did order some NOS germanium transistors and diodes but that was two months ago and still haven’t received nay of them.

Lance, Over there and all around the Eastern Block is full of old electronic gear and They still make it there today and are set up for it ,, Valves, Transistors, Radios you name it,I buy some Makita parts there that are not available in Japan anymore.
Just after the wall came down I was in lepzig in East Germany and if you looked at the shop windows it was full of old dated NOS stock , Cameras. Toasters, Radios all from the 50s , It was like a time warp when the people pulled the wall down. So that area is still full of it today.

And the streets were populated with the epitome of automotive engineering, the two-stroke Trabant. The East German coppers must have been wanting for some speeding revenue with all that junk on the road.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

Gee Pete! Do you have photos from East Germany? It would be fascinating to see!
The trabant is definitely an interesting car!

Gee it would be good to have a Russian valve radio. All I can find are vintage speakers styled like radios because they had some sort of “wired radio” which really was basically a one way intercom.

Going back a month, how things have changed since. From Albury to Melbourne by car is all on Freeway. Dangerous place, Niece & friend took her new car 2000km to Melbourne end of May & Mahat Macoat suspect on phone ran up its clacker. Now they have C-19 every where, of course this has nothing to do with marches.

On cars, ex neighbour has an A4 here, no insurance, so it has only been out of the shed once in 4 months & that was to put a tractor in the space in front of it. Classic is doing ok, its still got its original plates & quite regularly gets used as the shopping trolley & tow motor for a trailer.

There has been a Russian radio here actually with a turret like TV's & some German WWII ship radios. Aren't they a thing of beauty inside: Designed to be serviced quickly, like most German radios that went to war.

Yes I know of the Ricoh XR camera! I should add that I did get two Russian Zenit cameras which are both in brand new condition.
their both fully mechanical with a small solar cell for the manual light meter. both were made just before the collapse in 1992.

I think a few of us have Russian valve radios. I picked one up in a shop in Goulburn.
