Scomo has just been on TV advising that Australia is under cyber attack from a state based actor. This attack is at a higher level than previous ongoing activity.

Now wouldn't it be fun to develop an attack strategy that would bring down the Great Firewall of China!

In the very early days of the 'net we were our own ISP. There was a server in Melbourne that was constantly doing a port scan on us and costing us incoming bandwidth (on our dialup line!) They never found anything because they were looking in the wrong subnet.
Anyway we knew it was an NT based server so every time they did it, we'd fire off a Ping of Death and take it down!

Simple, naive days!

The early days of dialup connections was a lot of fun - I used to hang out on a few IRC networks and nuking newcomers to those networks (Windows 95A's dialup networking utility was not a goodun, security wise) was a source of entertainment for a time, until we got bored with it and moved on to become trusted people who ended up on the other side of the bars defending the IRC networks against attacks - which was a whole new ball game. DDOS and other types of floods were more common than most IRC users realised. Some attacks are easier to deal with than others. It didn't take more than a few years for the owners of most IRC networks to install software that masked IP addresses to protect users from the fun and games.

Well, no surprise it was China!
Perhaps we will all wake up and stop allowing them access to Australian land, business and icons .We also need to remember if we buy Chinese products we are supporting them .

I now await the Chinese Ambassador's televised denial with 'Twiggy' Forrest standing beside him.

Not to mention Chairman Dan Andrews declaring the Belt and Road being the greatest thing before and since sliced bread.

The Bureau of Meteorology is denying access to weather radar, synoptic charts etc. A reaction to/result of the hacking??

I once saw this sign in a school library:

Percentage of computers that are fixed by installing new software, updates and drivers and re-building the registry: 1%
Percentage of computers that are fixed by powering down, pulling the plug and re-starting: 99%
