I just read an article in The Australian which describes the recent sale of 2CH to the owner of Melbourne sports station, SEN (3AK), and subsequent plans to convert 2CH to relay SEN's sport content. This bloke is kidding only himself if he spoil's Sydney's only true valve radio listening station by invoking these changes.
We already have 2BL for cricket, 2GB for footy and 2KY for horse racing. We do not need any more sport stations. We want to keep 2CH as is.

Wow they have not mentioned it on Air. I listen to it here by streaming.
That's really bad as there are almost zero music AM left. We are already bombarded by sport in Oz ...I hate it with a passion.
Lately I have been listening to Total 60s Radio Canberra and I stream it too my Kriesler.its very good and it's 60s all day..
If they go ahead with those changes to 2CH the rating will hit the floor.....

Since I own the copyright to my comment on the site, here it is. I said as much there:-
If you want that 3.8% [market] share to become 0%, change 2CH to a sports channel. We already have 2KY running racing all day. 2CH has been a favourite of mine for 15 years. If there is one solitary change to the music format, the new station owner won't see me for the dust.

Oh, no. But I guess that's the inevitable destiny of AM in this city where AM has come to mean Annoying Motormouths.

Yes, the change is immediate.
I noted on Sunday mornings the format has changed, the church linkage and identities are gone.
The happy clappy Oh Lord sing songs are no more.
Kaylee Harris does a music format presumably from a booth somewhere in the building between production work.
Day times are music with Tim and Trevor handling the studio, so far.
They can all be replaced with 24hour sports feed no problem....................................
That would be the end of 2CH as a viable music service.
I guess I will have to hook the FM source up to my AM modulator mini transmitter and listen to 2WHATEVER on my valve radios, becasue all the other AM stations are full of lip flapping, self righteous morons like that clown john laws and all the wankers on ABC radio.
Oh well.
Fred.

That's disappointing news
2CH has been a music station for as long as I can remember, although it was "beautiful music" or somesuch.
https://radioinfo.com.au/news/2ch-keep-music-format-%E2%80%99s-croc
When I was a kid, 2GB, 2UE, 2UW, 2CH and 2SM all played music, the first 2 having talkback during the day.
Now, we're left with 2UE, which plays 80s music rather than the older stuff.

I consider myself very lucky to have 2CA here as they play 50s 60s, 70s, and 80s music in a 2 half hour music marathon every hour 24/7 formatt. Pete which is the all 60s canbera station you talk about?

Hi Carl,
Yes I'm a big Fan of 2CA. In fact it's very similar to 2CH but far better and as you mentioned it' plays the old songs we like to hear on our old radios which is what they play.
Total 60s Radio is another one I love and I have to use module for that one ,but it's great.

Great stuff !

I too have been a keen listener of 2CH for a long time .The signal is fairly weak fades in and out so I use the Internet and my goog old valve AM modulator. I totally agree with all your comments especially Vintage Pete's about being bombarded with sport I too hate it with a passion and it is just as bad or worse on TV the news is totally dominated by it I am totally allergic to the sports commentators I could break out in a rash if I don't mute them in time. There are a couple of vintage radio stations on FM which is available on the internet I sometimes use them via the AM modulator . I will check out the totally 60's Pete suggested and maybe Carl's 2CA if they live stream.
Regards Jimb.

Looks like 2CA is live-streaming now. https://14093.live.streamtheworld.com/2CAAAC.aac
When I tried several months back, they didn't stream because of the greediness of American record companies wanting a fee for every song played, even for dead artists.

We are also bereft of good AM classic music stations here in Melbourne. I too have taken to streaming online.
My fav at the moment comes from across the ditch - Magic FM, Auckland. I think you guys here will like it too.

You can download the online radio box app to a smart device and bluetooth it - in my case to a 60 year old valve stereo amp.

Ah yes! You won't notice the digitisation and compression artifacts for the even harmonic distortion!!

When I first decided to put a blue tooth on my 1960 Kriesler Radiogram so I could stream into it. I was a bit concerned it may sound bad.
But it sounds wonderful and on my Kriesler the room is wooden with bare floor boards . So Harmonic distortion is alive and well and sounds great...
One thing I would mention is phones dont seem to give as good as sound as running the tooth from a computer.

My desk top doesn't have bluetooth. I normally stream from my phone via the home wi-fi.
There is no noticeable difference streaming via bluetooth from either laptop, tablet or phone. The good thing about using a phone is being able to adjust the volume from wherever you are sitting.

Monochrome.
With mine there is a big difference between phone and lap top.
The sound from the phone is not as clear and it's not as powerful on volume levels.
It's quite noticeable.
But having said that,my phone is a cheapie pre paid 100 buck phone,It maybe a different story on an iPhone etc etc,
