I passed a shop today with this COVID-19 sign prominently displayed at its door: "Your well being is our priority".

It was a cigarette shop. That made me laugh.

Oh, I believe the sign. If you died in a few weeks because of the virus, they'd lose a customer much sooner than expected.

Ha ha ha , world's gone mad!
Perhaps they are relating to the stories on the news where people that smoke don't get the virus ,but the ex smokers do!
It depends on which story you read, some evidence points in the direction that people who are still smoking and get the virus don't die from the virus ,but Ex smokers do.
Once again .It depends on who what and where has done the stats on the topic.
Look, I smoke and I would never recommend it to anyone.
It's a rotten thing to be putting into your body, particularly by the heating method.
Nicotine is a extremely Addictive drug.
It also depends on when you started smoking ,
If you started smoking in your 20s and you smoked for 5 years, than giving up is not so hard. But if you started as a teen or a child then as your body developed it used the nicotine for many functions ,It releases dopamine and that in its self is addictive.
I gave up smoking for 10 years once and I went through hell to do so .During that 10 year period of not smoking ,I was still often needing and wanting nicotine. This is because I started smoking as a child not an Adult and according to the doctors that makes all the difference in the world.
I actually started smoking at 10,but a packet would last a week. Then when my daughter was born I gave up for just over 10 years.
I was never an Angel in my teens or 20s and I tried most things as people do in those years but I never found such an Addictive thing as nicotine.
Society is mad, they sell cigarettes legally and most of the cost is tax and goes to the government ,yet thousands die each year.
And that's legal! That's acceptable in our Society, but if you grow a bit of pot in your garden and have a puff with your wife ,they will throw the book at you ! Unless you live in the ACT of course where it's legal.

The movie tilte got it right, " it's a Mad Mad World !

I quit smoking cold turkey and forever when cigarettes reached $1 a pack. It took around 6 years before I entirely lost the nicotine craving. For the first few months I near bit my tongue to pieces chewing sugar-free gum.

I declared nicotine my enemy, and I beat it.

Yes, when I gave up for 10 years ,I just stopped and I chewed endless packets of PK Gum.
These days I still smoke but not very heavy, about 10 day. It's very odd because the other parts of my life are completely opposite,
I don't eat any junk food or take away at all.
I don't drink at all. No bad foods or sweet stuff of processed foods in my house at all.
I can't remember the last time I ate food that was considered not healthy , so it's very odd that I do smoke . It does not follow the pattern of my diet or other thinking.

I use to drink coffee with sugar ,but these days it's black with no sugar ,but I still have a cig with it

It is interesting as to how things pan out. I have not got enough fingers to count the number of friends, relies (including father) who's funerals I have attended as they smoked themselves to death. Emphysema was fairly popular & cruellest as it took most of them around seven years to die a slow death.

I could never see any sense in smoking, but once I got into the manufacturing industry, on the chemical side, it did not take long for the carelessness & ignorance others to get my respiratory system burnt twice. That caused sensitisation & it gets upset with dust & the weirdest things at times. This often produces an Asthma / Bronchitis effect.

Something upset them in the first week of March & the lungs went down to 40%, they're still not quite right, not that they ever will be. The other thing that I see is the use of disinfectants. I have suggested that some have an application form for AA next to the hand steriliser.

By using too much of this stuff and not getting enough sun (vitamin D); We are actually weakening our immune system. That's the joy of the Farm, plenty of sun (Fog currently), dirt & general grot to keep it happy.

I do love heath nuts: What on earth is the point in dying of nothing?

On the obsession with C-19 they have missed the real epidemic I predicted. & may well be not prepared for. The effects of the Gender specific "Egyptian flu" that results from couples being in confined spaces, will manifest in late November & through Christmas. This will see a predicted seven million women becoming Mummies.

Marc,
Did you know they have found a link with vitamin D and coronavirus?
People low in vitamin D have a much greater chance of not only catching it ,but of it killing Them .
I actually take vitamin D in tablet for and have done for about 2 years.

PS getting bloody cold here. 2 below yesterday morning ...but days are nice and grass is long and green , not so long ago there was not a blade of grass to be seen as I'm sure you know.... Extreme weather !

I am off to the Central West in a few weeks for a camp. It was -4°C there last night. Good camping weather, providing there is a nice big fire and plenty of sipping port in the bottle.

Brad, oh it's -2 or 3 here in the mornings in my kitchen ,but the days are fine . So you will have a good camp .
At about 4 pm the iceberg sails by every day .
Set your watch by it!
But look ,I was up in mountains only a few days ago and it's great at this time of year. In many ways it's better than summer.
Have a good trip !

Pete

I was up at Katoomba today. I got there before the traffic set in, which was good. Now that curfew is over, I've gone back to my weekend walks.

Sub zero mornings should continue until Wednesday. I note the frost valves here are working overtime. Its been around 09:30 before I set off to continue cleaning up down timber. I have six fires set ready to torch in the morning & still another hectare to clean up in that area.

When you have a high pressure system you get frost & when it collapses you get snow. Doing heavy manual labour outside I am finding the diurnal change in temperature starts to set in at the moment around 14:30 and gets nasty by 15:00. Typical winter pattern. Being rural one can see the advection layer forming, especially where there is smoke, as it is forced downward by it.

Forgot: As C-19 is an animal virus there was speculation that it was a mutant of Calicivirus: This probably explains why we see so many people behaving like Rabbits

Well 2 things made me laugh:

1/ I knew it was a full moon, how? I looked at the front of the paper and noted mass demonstration in the city streets by anybody with a grievance.

2/ Regarding that lot, just imagine if the government had decreed an experiment in CV19 virus transmission for Saturday morning and nominated 5000 people MUST assemble in front of town hall and breathe on each other. The courts would have been thick with protests and actions to stop it!!!
The conspiracy theorists can now have a field day at how clever the government has been. We need the experiment as a live field test to check the virus spread, so how can we get 5000 idiots to front up. TELL THEM THEY CANT DOIT! Genious! Problem solved , Experiment done. What may spoil it a bit is too many of the experiment batch wore masks. Damm, we should have decreed they MUST wear masks, then NOBODY would have and the experiment would have been better. Oh well. Time to data gather and see what the results are.

Oh and regarding the loud mouth youth the copper floored by leg sweeping.
One hundred years ago, if he had mouthed off like that to a fellow tribe member or an elder he would have got a SPEAR in his leg, not a sweep and floor!
Times have changed a bit.

Cynical?

Fred.
