Hello
I would be grateful if somebody can assist in identifying this console radio I picked up recently. And, of course, I am also in need of a circuit.

The radio is clearly Australian made (Magnavox speaker, Sydney – although I suppose this may not be original) and the dial is quite distinctive. It has a round dial of about six inches diameter with a sort of mother of pearl finish celluloid on which is printed a map of the world with the empire shown in red. It has a double pointer - one side of which is currently missing. (pictures attached)

ARTS&P sticker is white celluloid number A34693 – indicating (I think) 1934, but there is no indication at all of maker or model.

Valve lineup is 30, 42, 75, 6D6, 6A7.

Bruce

G'day Bruce,

There were a lot of no-name consoles made, mainly for department stores. You are right about the set being from 1934. If you look on the casing for the speaker transformer you might see a date stamped on it, giving an indication of what month the set may have been produced. This date is sometimes a guide only though as the speaker may have been made a few months ahead of being put into service.

Your rectifier valve is likely to be an 80 rather than a 30 though. Perhaps some of the marking is scratched off? The other valve types sound about right.

If you are about to take a picture of the receiver and e-mail it to Brad.mail.vintage-radio.com.au I will include it in your post for you.

Hi Brad,

Well, the Christmas period has been all too busy and I've just realised that its not a week or two since my original posting, but a good month or more.

Anyhow, thanks for the comments here - you are likely right regarding the numbering of the rectifier valve, it was an evening look at a pretty faded number. I initially had some problems getting an email to you as I mostly use gmail, but eventually thought I managed to get a few shots of the complete console and dial off to you successfully, but maybe it bounced again as, as far as I can see, you have not yet posted the photos. Could you give me an update on this please and if I need to resend the photos I will do so.

regards
Bruce Briz (Grahamf)

G'day Bruce,

If you are still having troubles you can try my old webmail address - chatbot.bigpond.com. I've just cleared a tonne of spam out of it so there's a bit of room to receive the pics you have.
