The Philco as noted is rather like that: Two of the worst were Midwests One 16 Tube the other 18. First time that I had had my hands on a monsters. The autodyne converter had a separate exciter & to get the higher frequencies actually switched in new cathode self bias resistors.

Top that off is was a Colpitts oscillator, so with a pre-ceding TRF stage the tuning gang was a four gang. So four coil sets. Then to add to the drama: One with amplified AGC (fortunately I had the setting instructions). One also had two numbered tubes in push pull driving four 6F6's all transformer coupled into Two electrodynamic Jensen speakers (Woofer & Tweeter).

Like the others here, it looked like it was on its third set of caps & no one had cleared the terminals: Extra work. I was fascinated on one to note like the Philco, It had parts on terminal plates inside the IF's (Ceramic) which meant that all had to be opened up to get at the dodgy parts. The resistors were from various era's and most wrong value. So this was "whatever was on the bench".

Just the sort of refurbishment you need like a hole in the head.

Errr!… Don't think I would buy it if it "Sucks" Its a bit like the "Falling Rocks" sign on the hill road here: If you have had a decent fall, it does not rock: It actually sucks.

Sorry about my rant, the job would have been done quicker if the previous repairers had have taken a bit more care. GTC, they weren't even J hooked, just poked into the big blob of solder with the rest of the legs. I was a road tech for over 40 years, and was alway conscious of a call back, I can honestly say, that the only times I J hooked was if the legs of the new componet were shorter than the original.
