Back in the day the worst thing that could happen to any toaster was that the element would blow and this could be replaced with a new one instead of throwing the whole toaster away. Same with steam irons and even clothes dryers. The greenies crap on about coal-fired power - where we dig stuff out of the ground and convert it into a reliable power supply but they do nothing when it comes to companies importing junk that lasts 12 months and then end up back in landfill. The bad news is that plastics are not organic, so they will never convert to coal or any other useful commodity. ‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾ A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

Wherever possible I try to buy appliances which are made in countries where quality matters. For instance, a few years back I bought a Kitchen aid stand mixer which is made in Michigan USA. It is built like a tank and will, I'm sure, last many years. It is still possible to buy quality items designed to last but I worry that in future these companies will be driven out of business by the cheap junk from China. It would be nice if we all took a stand and refused to buy this junk but price seems to dictate everything (sigh).

My cousin was building 12V motors for golf carts, roller doors etc. After his fist year of production he asked his customers why they had not ordered as many motors as they originally said they would. They told him that the extra motors they were going to order were for spares but as his motors didn't fail they didn't need the extra stock. He was working on getting some motors built in China and said to his customers that he could supply the same motors from China for a third the price and gave his customers the choice to by the ones made in China or the ones he made here. They all said they would pay the extra for his motors made hear as they knew how reliable they were.

It's a proper Aus model made for 240V 50Hz.
