I finnally had some spare time yesterday and there was a big throw out on near where I live so I had a bit of a look about , I was told its the last throw out for the Dee why , cromer , northen beaches area and from now on you will need to phone them to have your rubbished removed , So thats a bit sad , I do enjoy those throw outs !! Yesterday I found 3 boxes of those old Bakelite fittings for houses , light fittings, string light switches , lamp fittings etc etc ,, A good find for me !!! There was also a very old Transformer that I grabbed , I looked at it when I ggot home and it still has the label on it ,, 220 or 110 option to 48 volt no idea what it would of come off ! I picked up a few nice old nally brand kitchen things from the 50s which are pretty cool and colourful .... No old tellies or radiograms though .. Pete

Ever since I moved out here (Campbelltown council), you've had to ring up and make an appointment. You get 4 free callouts per year. They will send a letter informing you when to put the rubbish out.

Unfortunately, around here the rubbish is usually just that - total trash of no value to anyone.

----------

Wingecarribee council is a lot worse - there's no free service at all, it costs money. Or you can put your rubbish in a trailer, drive 50km to Moss Vale, and pay to dump it. They are not a nice council, charging huge rates for no service. Then they had the hide to sue a resident who objected to land rezoning (it was on A Current Affair). Some councils only exist to make life a misery for their unlucky constituants.

I get the impression that most suburban councils have now moved to the book a pick-up scheme. With the old scheme, where rubbish sat on the street for more than a week, we had conga lines night and day of scavengers turning neat piles into shambles with stuff strewn all over the place. There was also a problem with loads of trade/building waste being dumped which the garbos would not take.

GTC ,, Yep ! The Tradies put posts on facebook asking where the throw out is on ! Than they dump it there ! I see it all the time .... its no wonder too when the tip charge is $300 per ton for general waste which is about a full load on my Toyota Ute ...
