Hi All,

I'm a newcomer here, but I just acquired a Kriesler 11-17 vintage radio, dated from what looks like 1949. I was just wondering if anybody here has a schematic for it. I looked at everything, and everything inside looks in good nick (except the exterior), then I plugged it in and turned it on (I know I shouldn't) and there was a loud hum and a little bit of smoke. Now from what I've found out this is the capacitors in the power circuit playing up, but the tubes did light up. This is basically why I need the schematic. I'm replacing all the capacitors, paper - wax - and electrolytic. Any further help or links would be appreciated since I'm new to vintage radios. I have worked on other electronics including an old Kriesler All-In-One unit so I have a fair knowledge of electronics.

Thanks,
-Tim.

G'day Tim,

I'm unable to find any reference to the 11-17 in my literature. Can you confirm that the model is a 11-17? Could it be 11-7 which was a popular model around 1949?

If it is a 11-17, could you give a short description of the set such as valve line up, cabinet material and whether a mantel or console etc.

Cheers, Graham

Hi Graham,

Sorry, it's a 11-71. I've only got the date (1949) from one of the parts inside, so it may not be right. It's got 5 valves. The cabinet is either bakelite or normal plastic. Same cabinet as this one (http://members.iinet.net.au/~reginald/RadioPages/Kriesler%2011-60%20restoration.htm) but the top is the original colour of a marrone/dark dark red.

One question to add though, there are two tall metal cylinders next to the valve sockets. What are these? I've heard they are capacitors.

Thanks,
-Tim.

G'day Tim,

The 11-71 was produced in 1955. The model 11-71A was introduced a year later. Only difference was the 71A had ita antenna coil replaced by a ferrite loopstick.

The two cyclinders are IFTs (Intermediate Frequency Transformer)

Valve lineup is; 6AN7, 6N8, 6BD7, 6AQ5 and 6V4.

If you send me your email address, I'll send you a copy of the circuit.

Cheers, Graham...

Hello again Graham,

The valve lineup is handy, some of the markings have come off the valves so thanks for that. Email address (since I can't see a PM system here is mailbox at graphicgraffiti dot com dot au) - it's like that because of spam... Grin Much appreciated.

Thanks,
-Tim

Sorry Graham but I forgot to ask something.

It may sound stupid but what does each of the 4 knobs on the front do? I know the far left is power (on/off) and by the look the far right is tuning, but what do the other two do?

Thanks,
-Tim
