Tonight, the VR forums have returned.

Please report any bugs, such as 404 Errors here as I am yet to set up e-mail. Also, the password retrieval service is also not yet operational so no need to report that. Aside from these, everything else should work.

I forgot to point out that all internal links posted on the forums will be broken, due to the need to rename the default page. I will fix this up in the next week as it is very important, both for SEO purposes and member convenience. I will post a further announcement as this and the e-mail related services are restored.

Great to see! Thanks for all the hard work.

Waiting to hear how the phone lines were cut off without notice. This could happen to others of us who are in the NBN twilight zone

I am going to do another test on the frame when I get a chance. Last time, all inbound lines tested had no dial tone. That could easily mean that those tested simply meant that the occupiers only had mobile phones and/or VOIP via the NBN. I tested five at random out of 18 flats though - so I doubt it.

I've heard other tales of where people have been cut off before the due date and without notice so this may be a case of the same thing. There's supposed to be 18 months grace and this is set in law but as most know, the communications industry tends to do its own thing at times.

For the foreseeable future, VR will remain where it is. So far I've been happy with the service provided and it's not that expensive. What's more, the site seems to be working each time I visit so I am thankful for that too.

On that note, I also appreciate everyone's patience with this matter. I know that when a regularly-visited website is not accessible it is frustrating and having similar issues with other well-known vintage radio sites has probably compounded the problem, especially with last-minute auctions and sales on at the moment.

The server looks like it is in NZ, or the system time is a bit out. The timestamp is three hours behind and will need correcting at some stage.

Brad,

Yet another "Thank You" for persevering & sorting out the problems..... is much appreciated.

When sites like this go pearshaped it often takes an enormous amount of time & effort to get things back on an even keel. Well done.

Others appear to have issues when running Firefox viewing this site but since the site has been back up Firefox for me is running very well viewing Vintage Radio.

Lindsay

With regard to the access issues over the last twelve months I am thinking that it has been an issue with the connections rather than the CMS deciding to go on strike. It's hard to prove but I have noticed much the same improvement with reliability. It would certainly explain why HTTP 500 Errors were not being logged by the previous server.

I am just glad that I am shot of TPG and their shenanigans. When I first signed up with them, many years ago now, they weren't too bad, despite already having a chequered history with customer service. In the last year just about everything has been second class at best. It is a shame that such a useless company is now Australia's second largest ISP, being about twice the size of Optus now and bad news for Vodafone customers - TPG is supposed to be purchasing VHA Australia which means they will now own one of the three national mobile phone networks.

When a company grows only by acquisition and not through gaining customers organically, it is very easy for them to lose sight of how to win business. Over the last ten years, TPG has swallowed many companies, one of which went on its own spending spree up until they were swallowed by TPG. If you are with iiNet, Westnet, Netspace, Vodafone, Chariot, NorthNet, Internode or Soul then you are part of the TPG over-arch.

Thanks Brad for all your work in getting things working again.

I just need to change the shortcut in my bookmark.

So, it seems there's a story to be told with your disconnection. Is it still broken?

Put it this way, I no longer have an ADSL connection. I've changed my phone plan to accommodate more data and now use that. I may be moving house early in the new year so this will save me a lot of stuffing around. If that happens I'll worry about an NBN connection at the new joint.

Thanks for all your pains Brad. Failure of the connection must have been the last straw, but perhaps turns out to be the cause of the whole 404 saga.

" all internal links posted on the forums will be broken"
I suppose this is the reason that Search Forums fails when I click Search after filling in my search requirements.

In my view, TPG has always been the Franlkins of the industry: cheap products with zero service. I was very annoyed when the iiNet Board sold out to TPG and I'll be happy to be shot of them when NBN comes and I consider my options.

I think you're doing a disservice to Franklins. They were a good source of cheap groceries until they were destroyed by the Big Two.

Never used TPG... always been a Telstra customer, despite the ups and downs.
