Whilst I think we are all very lucky to have, when compared to other forums, a peaceful, harmonious and cordial relationship amongst the entire membership here, an event earlier today serves to remind us all that we do not live in an ideal world.
Quite clearly, a few here need to exercise a greater level of self control, both when posting comments and responding to comments that breach expectations. I am not happy with some of the comments being made and they have been edited to the point that they become satisfactory reading. I am also not happy with the methods used by a few members in response to what is not unusual for forum discussion in general - abusive content.
These people used a few sources, it seems, to obtain my phone number to report what in my view isn't exactly an earth-shattering offence, although it did breach the AUP and has been dealt with. All of what happened today is completely unacceptable in an online community and I expect everyone to maintain a cool head at all times, regardless of whatever happens.
Abuse doesn't achieve anything, apart from getting me annoyed. Hyperventilating about it also doesn't achieve anything, apart from getting me annoyed. With this in mind, I refer all members to Section 5C of the Terms of Use. This section applies as of now and members' continued use of the site will signify that they agree with what has been written. I ask that all members read not just the new clause but the entire document and become more familiar with its content. I will also ask all members to read the Acceptable Use Policy, as it governs all content submitted to the site.
I am not in a position to suggest an alternative to using this site as a place to hurl abuse. I will just ask that it does not happen here - at all.
Moving on - I am going to forget today's events and I'll even forget the abuse of my phone number. In reply to that I will expect that all members spend time advancing the cause of what is a great hobby and spend more time helping each other instead of trying to find ways to get on each other's nerves.
On an unrelated note, I have spent a lot of time lately correcting spelling and grammar. It is that time again, to remind people that their computers have a SHIFT and a CAPS key. Please do not start sentences or proper nouns with small letters and if your browser cannot be adjusted to use an EN or EN-AU spelling checker, please turn the spelling checker off. I've been correcting too many instances of foreign dialects.
