Hi,

Have just purchased a Fleetword (Model FL 1206A) and am trying to find out something about it...or even the manufacturer. I'm guessing its about a mid 50's model.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Peter

My guess is Philips. It looks like a badge-engineered version of the mighty Philips model 165 from around 1955.

Thanks Brad,

I saw something somewhere that also suggested it had a Philips heritage but was unaware there was another of similar appearance.
Apologies for accidentally posting in the wrong forum. Shouldn't have been posting that early in the morning. Could you please move it to General Discussion?
Thanks,

No apology necessary. I will shift it as soon as I can. Wink

Fleetwood is listed in the AORSM's

That one is not as it is after 1955

That does not mean it cannot be repaired if needed

The Fleetwood name appears to have been introduced with 1955 models.
It was an alternate branding by Philips Electrical Industries Pty Ltd 69 Clarence St Sydney.
All Philips radios made after approx 1958 were branded Fleetwood.
Most, if not all, Fleetwood radios 1955-58 had Philips equivalents.
Philips also made versions of their products for Mullard from late 1930's until about 1953.
Further investigation suggests that the Fleetwood name may have been introduced to fill the Mullard sales gap. And later allowed Philips to segregate the Philips name from the domestic radio area.
Fleetword Model (FL) 1206 was released in 1958 as a 4 valve AC broadcast mantel, the Fleetword model (FL) 1206A would be a first engineering change (modification) of the 1206, so may be 1958 or 1959.
It is therefore NOT the equivalent of Philips 165 (5 valve); it is more likely the equivalent of the 166 (4 valve also released in 1958).
