Just acquired a mantel radio off ebay, and are having trouble identifing make and year.

Story from the family is that it is a one owner radio and that the son remembered his father bringing it home in 1933, being such a big deal at the time.
I discount this year unless the glass dial has been replaced at later date which it does not appear to be and is unlikely.
Back of the chassis is clean no ARTS&P sticker, no numbers, no marks at all, except the owners name.

Current valve line-up; 6A8G?, 6U7G, 6B6G, 6F6G, 5Y3G
First valve hard to make out. Can see 6A.

It has a Rola speaker model no. not visible, 2500ohms I think.
Transformer is made by Henderson.
Cabinet has the numbers A2 1097 punched into the top back.

From a bit of detective work on the stations printed on the dial I come up with a date of late1937-late1939

The dial emblem is a crown with radio written under it.
Possible make from AUSTRALIAN RADIO BRAND NAMES, Art Courtney - March 2009 is Crown, Crown Manufacturing Co - Sydney
1934 - 1939?

Although I haven't traced the circuit out yet It appears not to have AGC and could be similar to this, http://www.siliconchip.com.au/cms/A_100498/article.html, except slightly older from stations on the dial.

Any ideas welcome

I can't confirm this as the brand is not familiar to me. My guess is the radio is late 1930s going by the size of the tuning dial.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

The 6A8 Pentagrid Valve in this was not released until the late thirties
First Pentagrid patented was around 1933.

Prior to that they used autodyne converters which used Pentodes.
