My mum has an old record player/radio that I'm not sure what it is, or at least, I haven't been able to find details on it, online.
It says Midlands, I assume that is the brand. On the radio section, has written on the front, the Australian States, says longwave and short wave megacycles also.
Does anyone know what this is? Or where I can find more information on it?
Thank you
Chenoa

Midlands was the house brand for Murdoch's Ltd, of Park & George St's, Sydney. Murdoch's I believe was bought out by Walton's in 1951. Walton's retained the Midlands brand.
Midland radios & radiograms are generic rebranded sets. If you can supply some good pictures, especially some of the chassis we may be able to identify the actual manufacturer. Also, if possible, a valve line up would be most helpful.
Picture can be emailed to Brad, the administrator.

I remembered after posting my comments last night that I saw a pink Bakelite Midlands mantel in a second hand shop. It had a KGH/Titan chassis - a 4 valve job with a EF50.
There is a Midlands chassis here: https://vintage-radio.com.au/default.asp?f=2&th=335
This looks to be either a KGH or Zenith, but I'm leaning more towards KGH.

That looks similar to dozens of generic radiograms of the era.
If you tell us which valves are in it, we may be able to identify the chassis and hence the manufacturer.
NOTE: If it hasn't been used for a long period, then don't attempt to power it up. Doing so can cause otherwise avoidable irreparable damage.

Ok, if it's the little glass thingy-ma-jigs, then there are two valves, that I can find.
I can only see one valve though 6N8

We can expect there to be 4 or 5 valves in total. Without seeing the chassis itself, my guess is that the other valves -- assuming they haven't gone missing -- are contained within metal cylinders (possibly with holes in them) called goat shields, such as these:

With luck, there is sometimes a label on the back of the chassis showing the valve positions(layout) and naming them.
The 6N8 is probably the IF amplifier and detector, and the other valve you can see is probably the rectifier.
Some brands which used 6N8 in radiograms of the period 1950-1955 were: Astor, BGE, Operatic and President-Tasma.

It should have five valves, all (or mostly) noval (miniature 9 pin) types.
The valve line up would most likely be 6AN7, 6BH5 or 6BA6, 6N8, 6M5 & 6V4. Mid 50's Zenith's tended to use mainly 7 pin miniatures, whereas KGH used mainly 9 pin noval types. As mentioned before it has been confirmed that at least one Midlands model has a KGH chassis.
If you gently prise off the top Masonite panel viewed from the back (it looks like it is nailed rather than screwed on) you then should be able to see the rest of the valves.

A popular line-up for radiograms of that era was:
5Y3GT, 6AN7, 6N8, 6AV6, 6AQ5
6V4, 6AN7, 6N8, 6AV6, 6AQ5
6V4, 6AN7, 6N8, 6BD7, 6M5
