As those who frequent V-R are aware, the site has been suffering some intractable technical glitches for a while now. The V-R site software was written from scratch some years ago by site owner Brad who maintains it. He also hosts the site from home at his own expense.

Brad's real job requires him to work rather long hours, often including weekends, thus he does not have a lot of free time. The upkeep of V-R in recent times -- especially to deal with the glitches -- has eaten seriously into the little free time that he has, and Brad has mentioned in another post that this is taking its toll on him.

This is a great site. Apart from a small and sporadically used Yahoo Group, there really isn't another go-to place to discuss vintage Aussie radio and electronics, so if V-R were to disappear we'd all be the poorer for it.

Consequently, I'd like to express my sincere thanks to Brad for his dedication and hard work in keeping V-R 'on the air'.

I agree with you 100% GTC.

I must admit I am the first to yell out when the site plays up but I then think...........I don't pay a cent for the use of this site or have any responsibility for it.

Brad has done a fantastic job keeping this site up and running and deserves our patience and support.

I support that.
I have used VR as a lodging place for all my rambling and learnt a lot about vintage radio in a easy user friendly atmosphere unlike the other site.
There may be a bit of latency in the discussion forums, I just log on again and keep going.
Better a bit of slowness than a blank screen.
Thanks for all the efforts Brad.
Fred.

I agree with RTC too.
We are lucky to have such a forum. As it is all done voluntarily by Brad and his helper moderators, I feel I have no right to complain about current problems.

The only other local electronics forum I have consulted is diyAudio about my '80s Playmaster series 200 stereo amplifier which I built in 1985 from a Jaycar kit- very helpful.

Yes indeed, well done Brad for having the initial vision to create the site, building a logical layout with excellent functionality and then persevering with fixing all the technical issues of server migration. (One of my previous working lives was in the IT game as a developer and database system manager on a global system so I am well aware that issues and problems arise for no obvious reason!)

As stated by GTC and others, there is no better Australian site to discuss the curiosities of vintage and now almost antique (100 years+) technology. While I am more of a reader than a contributor of posts on items other than old phones, I do find the info on old radios an TVs interesting and I have learnt a lot from other members.

Keeps up the good work Brad as it is truly appreciated.

Andrew

And also from me a vote of thanks to Brad for his tireless efforts.

VR is without doubt about the best site for this hobby/interest. Only rare glitches now do I experience. Vastly improved.

Well done Brad.

Lindsay

Thanks for your kind words chaps. It is much appreciated.

As will be mentioned in another notice of site work that I will publish over the weekend, work will continue on the new site next weekend. With the database now prepared, time will come to write the code for the new membership area. Hopefully once that is done I can make the new site recognise existing cookies on members' computers rather than making everyone sign out and then in again.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...
