Hope everyone is enjoying the Long Weekend, very hot and humid he in the NW Sydney. Great to see the site up and running again thank you Brad.

It has been awhile since I have been on the site, so have some catch up reading.
I was wondering is anyone out there can point me to where I can find info on a Westonola Console Radio.
I have searched the usual sites and google but nothing comes up. The radio I am looking at has no infor on the Chasis and just has the name Westonola on the Dial Decal. It is a 1930s radio from what I can tell and has 5 valves but as I am working of a photo cannot tell you the line up.
If anybody can help me with the following, Is Westonola the model/brand or is it a manufacturer?
Is an Australia , NZ or USA Radio.
Where could I find any info on this brand?
Thank George

Not much to go on here....

It could be a poverty era radio, i.e. made by a very small manufacturer.

Hi George,

How did you get on with that shellac Finnish you were doing on the Radiogram? BTW I have a new supplier for shellac and he his over my way at Church Point, but he just posts it to you.
He has clear, white, and the rest.
He also sells Hide glue , very hard to get in oz!
It's perfect for veneers, much better than a PVA because you can heat it up if the job does not work out .
And just separate the glued items easily and start again. I can't remember if your veneers needed work or not?
All the best pete

A search of both Bing and Google drew a blank for me. What is the radio like? Does it have an all-states dial or just numbered 1-100, etc?

The place of birth can usually be ascertained just by looking at the front of the radio. Different countries had distinct styles. Australian radios were very simple, usually five valves and a plaque on the back of the chassis with a serial number that will indicate the year of manufacture. Inside the cabinet may be a sticker showing the patents that apply to the radio. What brand is the loudspeaker?

Sending a nice sharp, clear photo of the front and the back of the set may help with identifying it. See Point 6 above for details.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

Is the one on Ebay the one you are looking at?

The couple of photos on the Ebay page may help someone offer some more information.

Looks an interesting radio, good luck.

Harold

If it is the one on ebay then its a nice set. It has a 3 core power cable on it which means its been worked on Sad but shouldn't be a big issue I hope.

Yes it is the one on ebay, it does look like someone has worked on it, I think the Chasis has been also sprayed this no evidence of any of the labels that would have helped identify it. I seem to recall coming across Westonola in the past but cannot seem to recall when and the details.
I prefer to get this era radio's in there original untouched state, but that is getting harder these days.
Brad the dial is just the numbers, not sure if your looked at the link Gandhn provided. Thanks Gandhn.
Vintage Pete, sorry I thought I had posted some finish project pics on the STC Console I had restored , it came up great and I have it up and running nicely in my lounge, I can post a few pcs if you like.

Thanks George

Power transformer installation looks original to me, otherwise it would have taken over a lot of chassis space.

Actually it looks pretty original to me. That's a VERY old power cord and plug and the chassis paint is original.

Speaker looks like it could be an early Amplion or Magnavox 10*.

It's an Autodyne, my guess at the valve lineup is 57, 58, 57, 2A5, 80. Very standard circuit I'd guess.

The absence of an ARTS&P label (or the holes for it, in the first couple of years they were rivetted on) makes it probably 1932.

Dial is a generic EFCO. Small scale manufacturer? "Westonola" could be a retailer brand....

Interesting. Good original condition. Great to see the wet electro cans still there, that's very rare.

Are you going for it George? If so we'll hold off, won't we fellas?

No checking, it's not Nitro.
No yellowing it's not varnish.
Scratching all over the top and it's going to be shellac

Westonola is the house brand for West's Music & Radio Stores in Hurstville.

Most likely a badge engineered generic set.

Ian is right the collective wisdom on this site is remarkable, Monochrome and GTC please share how you have come across this West's Radio & Music Store association with Westonola branded radio.
I search for the existence of this store in Hustville past and during the 30s but at this point no luck.
Anything you can insight or direction on this would be most appreciated.
