I recently acquired a wooden case hotpoint radio, the chassis has model L55FC although the C isn't clearly defined but it looks like a CT
The Valves are 6J8G, 6SK7GT, 65Q7GT, 6V6GT, 5Y3GT/G and that is all that is listed on the paper stuck to the inside of the case, although there is a 6BE6 hiding behind one of the RF cans!
The case is wooden. Does anybody know anything about this model and where I might find a schematic? I have a funny feeling it has been modified at some stage?

The Hotpoint L55FE has that line-up.
I've emailed its schematic and notes to you.

Hey Guys, bless you all!!! You wouldn't believe this (but you might) I stripped it down to bare components, chassis upside down in my spare
room and proceeded to snip out the little circuit board pictured, then I snipped both ends of all of the wires leading to the mystery 6BE6
valve, then thought "what the heck" and plugged in the speaker, attached a wire to the aerial post, other end to the longwire antenna, then
got out my trusty dim bulb testing device and through this I powered it up and hey presto! MUSIC!!!! 5CS Port Pirie loud and clear, even got
some shortwave reception, so quite stoked actually, all the valves must be good, the caps are the old black paper types and 2 x red
cardboard 8μF electrolytics all still in circuit and the set working reasonably well, I never expected that after fiddling no end with that blasted
basket case Dominion which won't even offer half a crackle!!! Some radio's are just nice and others bad juju I guess!
So now all I need to do is restore the cabinet and re-cap and check resistors and this one's going to be a real beauty!
By the way my old man told me a good trick for gluing down old veneer that's come adrift... Add glue between the veneer and cabinet and
use Duct tape stretched over the curvy corners to hold it down! Didn't think of that, great idea, should work a treat! Cheers!!!

I guess someone tried to use the 6BE6 as an RF amplifier and failed.
It's good you got it going, now just the restoration and it should be fine.

I guess my earlier post about this went missing, but it looks to me like that 6BE6 was wired as a 2nd mixer to make a double-conversion superhet and eliminate the images on the shortwave band.
I recall seeing a R&H or RTV&H article on how to do just this. By Maurie Findlay I suspect.

Yeah... I thought there were more posts earlier... wasn't there a schematic attached with a double-conversion mod from America?
Maybe a few things were lost during Brad's database work.

I did see the mod posted.
I just tossed (along with others) total 7 resistors from an STC D150 very predictable do not leave any 500K or 50K resistor unchecked: The highest for one 500K was 720K. Those two resistor values would have the highest attrition rate across sets.
The black Axial's will be paper types & often crack & short: Replace. I have never replaced one of those black rectangular Mica's faulty.

Cool, yes I intend to do just that. Only question is I have .5 and .05μF ones are .47 and .047 ok or is it wise to piggy back .01's and .001's to
bring up to the correct value? I have done that before being a little pedantic, not sure if it's necessary but it's not hard to do. I'd be happy to
restore the double conversion if I could do it neatly and effectively, the original one was a bit howdy doody!

No need for that.... 0.47 and 0.047 are perfectly fine.
