A trick I use with dial and pilot bulbs is to install 12.6 volt versions. They therefore run at half voltage and will probably outlast the radio. They are bright enough, especially if there are two of them.

Honestly I hate it.
I find the light produced by Leds etc is terrible. I find it to be hard on my eyes and makes me squint at everything and in the home ,it does not produce a warm atmosphere and the home feels more like a doctors waiting room than home.
Btw I use to sell Modern lighting!
I just like the good old fashion incandescent Bulbs we all grew up with!
Sometimes I buy those antique Edison copies and there good fun in lamps and they look the part in keeping up with all my old stuff , much better than some modern hideous bulb that sticks out like dogs balls and produces a cold clinical atmosphere.

You can get a LED version of that now at Bunnings. Squirrel cage and the random horsehair filament styles, amongst others.

I agree that they aren't 'pure' though. It's a shame that incandescent light globes are only about 8% efficient because they are so simple and yes, the light is always pleasing from them.

When they first became "the enemy of the planet" in the eyes of the UN, there was an outcry in Europe because people still wanted to buy them.

German manufacturers no longer called them lamps. They called them "room heaters".

By using this simple loophole they can still sell them today, demand is high, and as a bonus the UN are made to look like total flogs.

I like that! Fancy the Germans thumbing their nose at bureaucracy!

Other examples come to mind:

US CAFE legislation (Corporate Average Fuel Economy), where car makers have to achieve a certain fuel economy across their range of cars. It was designed to force car makers to sell lots of small cars. Of course, trucks are exempt and Americans love their big block V8s. Solution: Sell trucks instead of cars! That;s why most Americans drive trucks.

The exorbitant margarine tax in the 60s, intended to prop up the dairy industry. Solution: Label it Cooking Margarine!

In the 70s I needed to import some high speed op-amps from the US. Tariffs were still in place in those days. My vendor described them as Voltage Regulators, no tariffs apply. Thanks guys!

My Christmas tree is a original 1960Starlite Tree with all the original lights and decos.
The light it produces has feeling that no modren lights can give me.
Yep most years I search for bulbs on the net and I still find them and yeah I know its aluminum tree with lights on it!

Its a 1958 ufo Heater,
It lights up when turned on and has 3 flashing lights under it that make it look like its taking off.
Quite Rare . Ufos were all the rage in the fashion.

It made news a few weeks ago. Top government officials are now admitting that there appears to be things up there we don't yet understand.
