I would be most grateful for any info on this radio. I think it was about C1937?

Looking for info on things like:

made in Australia?

rarity?

any other info.

Many thanks!

The Theatrette was made in several countries and came with a different tuning dial for each country. It was mostly sold in Australia under the Briton brand though I think there are a handful of Philips-branded sets around.

I wouldn't call it a super rare receiver however they are rare enough to attract good dollars and are definitely a worthy set for any collection.

Thanks Brad.

I have come across one from New Zealand that is in mint condition. Without sounding like a money-grubber - any suggestion to a value?

If in good nick I'd pay around the $400 mark (not that I consider myself a buyer at the moment). Philips receivers sound pretty good when they are in good nick. The only downside to a Theatrette is that they do not have a chassis. Everything is screwed to the cabinet inside and the wiring is point to point in the true sense of the word, making servicing an interesting experience.
