Hello everybody, I'm just asking hoping somebody can help. I recently bought a Kriesler 11-78 stereogram. The radio works fine, although one speaker was unsoldered and laying loose in the bottom of the cabinet, when re-soldered and replaced, all worked fine, both channels ok, running through a dim bulb. The turntable so far appears to be working fine, however the stylus for the LP side was twisted and bent and not contacting the stylus, however the 78 stylus seems ok. I haven't checked for sound on the 78 side but there was nothing on the LP side for obvious reasons. The cartridge is mono having only two wires, one bridged across two terminals in the headshell inner pin connectors. As this is a stereo capable unit, I would like to know where I might obtain, preferably a stereo headshell with cartridge and stylus, or at least a stereo cartridge which I might be able to fit to my headshell, preferably with flip-over to 78/ 33.

From what I have ascertained my turntable is a Garard model RC 121 MK 2 and the cartridge I seek is a GCS 10/2. If I can get another headshell and find a cartridge I'm hoping to use this for LP's and keep the one I've got (if the cartridge is serviceable) for 78's as from what I've seen in pictures of the stereo cartridge, it doesn't appear to flip over for 78's. Anyway I'm interested in any solutions! Thank you in advance.

I’m fairly sure your cartridge would be stereo.
4 pins out the back 2 bridged connected to outer shield and the other 2 to the shielded inner 2 wires.
Rotate stylus for 78 or LP.

Stylus is available here: https://www.stylusplus.co.uk/stylus-for-garrard-gcs-102-cartridge-5794-p.asp

This seller says this is an equivalent: https://www.turntableneedles.com/Needle-492-D7_p_1082.html

A headshell and tonearm sold on eBay for US$35 two years ago: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Garrard-turntable-model-RC-121-MK-II-headshell-and-tonearm-/251586524119

Here is a short series of videos on overhauling the RC 121 MK 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihGHyj-qhPs

The service manual appears to be available online.

The Rc 121 , you can easily put in a better cartridge.
Ive Restored a few Rc 121. There one of my favourites.
Awhile back I did one up for Ian and he tracked down a much better cartridge that fits straight in.
So you might want to ask him what number it was.

Also the thread is on here somewhere, but I could not see it ,
They are a very nice turntable. When oiled right .
The speed selection has a gearbox and it tends to freeze up , ,,, well you know,,,,, its 60s years old!
The other problem they get is if the arm is not set right they get muddled.
I have the manual and specs if you need to know the measurements
Note ! This unit was a big seller in the states , but "some" of their Head shells are 4 pin!!.
In Oz both the Mono and stereo Head Shell are 3 pin.
I have spares here for the RC 121 but no spare Head shells.
I too have a 11 78
The 11 78 came with 2 heads 78 and it flipped to lp, plus a true stereo head for only lps , this head is much lighter tracking weight

The cartridge I fitted was a common ceramic replacement type I bought at a vinyl store in Surry Hills.
Most cartridges have a standard 1/2 inch mounting.
I needed some longer screws and plastic spacers so that there was adequate clearance under the headshell.
The cartridge didn't come with terminals so I used inserts from a 9 pin valve socket, covered with heatshrink.

Pete did a great job on the turntable. After I'd done a strip, clean, lube and reassemble it looked like new but I just couldn't get it changing properly. Pete helped me out with that.

There were 470k resistors on the tagstrip under the TT which I removed because ceramics normally like a higher input impedance, only to find the bass response extended to such an extent that I got acoustic feedback. The resistors went back in, feedback gone!

Yes mine is the 11 78 and it's definitely a 3 pin jobbie. I've downloaded the manuals. My headshell then is the mono version having the flip from LP to 78, it seems that it is the lighter stereo version of headshell I need. I'll need to keep looking, all I could find on ebay are ones which sold ages ago. I suppose even a mono one could be modified by shaving off as much of the plastic without compromising the structure of the plastic and fitting a stereo cartridge? Thanks for you replies guys, much appreciated! Cheers.

The Rc 121, is very common in oz.
I would be Amazed if one of the members here didnt not have one they could supply you with, Its actually the model after the Rc121 thats hard to get.
But the 121 looks much better and when set up right its a pleasure to watch it working.
Clever little things they are!
Pete

BtW the 1178 came in 3 colours ,
ROSEWOOD, OAK AND THE VERY RARE SANDWOOD,
Sandwood is a blond , about bamboo colour.
The veneers were mostly Qld walnut

Thank you Pete and Rob, I love your ingenuity! Yes it's a nice unit, mine must be oak as it's not as dark as Rosewood or light as bamboo/ blonde, so that's handy to know as mine has a few chips and what appears to be a burn on the turntable lid, that's a couple of millimetres deep, so now I know what stain to use after using a bit of wood filler here and there, before touching up the varnish in those spots. I like the turntable, it looks very robust and is very quiet!

The 2 standard heads that came with the 11 78.

Note the 78 Head has very heavy metal brackets.
