Are we sure that the Croc did not eat the wires prior to its skin being used on the set?
That battery lot that I linked to are not behind the eight ball, they do sell the plugs for them, to help flatten them, so you continuously need new ones: Cunning plan.
The question is however, how is it to be powered? Alternative power kits do have the right socket, some don't.

On checking this radio out last night I discovered that the thumb screws holding the back panel on also connect the loop antenna ( which is located on the inside of the back panel ) into the cicuit and also double as connector screws for external earth and antenna. How ingenious is that !

Ok a visit from my resident Radio Guru really shon some light on this one. In the pictures I have sent you will see the blue and white wires which as someone here before said were the 45 volt wires. What confused me were the other two wires which are connected to a identical battery plug ( ie 45 Volt Battery Plug ) these were supposed to plug into the loop antenna . It confounds me why they would use a identical plug and socket. I am hoping that plugging 45 volts into the antenna circuit doesnt hurt the radio grrr.

Assuming the loop antenna isn't open circuit, then connecting voltage to it would tend to make it try to act like toaster element.
If the voltage supply has a low current capacity then no damage may occur. Suggest a continuity check on the loop.

I don't have a schematic for that set but, in simple terms I would expect one end of the loop antenna to connect to the grid of the first valve and the other to earth.
However, best to follow the circuit from that antenna socket, point to point, and see if any connection is made to a filament at any point.
My gut feeling is that you'll be okay, but only a circuit check will confirm it.
If the valves still light up, you've probably (hopefully) dodged a bullet.
