Photobucket no longer allows photos to be posted on third party websites unless you upgrade to the full Photobucket account.

I use imgur these days. PB was as slow as a wet week anyway.

There is a similar discussion on the US forums:-

With regard to Photo Bucket it looks like a case of get everyone interested for free then slug the heck out of them.

There's no chance of me ever paying that sort of money to host a few radio photos - (more than $500 a year)

Once I've managed to deal with the issue with this website I will once again explore the option of members being able to upload their own photos here. If I can get that going it'll mean no third party sites will be needed.

It looks more like a case of desperation to me. I can't think of a better way to ruin your name and lose customers than to suddenly hold the world to ransom like it has.

On-site posting is definitely the way to go.

Whoever owns Photobucket is probably looking to close down, so by charging so much, they can get rid of most people before eventually taking the final step.

I think, to be as fair as possible, they should give their members the opportunity to claim any content they host before starting to charge for it and then following that then anything goes.

It is my aim to add some extra features to this site down the track though I will make sure that this site's primary purpose works perfectly before doing so. With that in mind I have plans on rolling over to the new server around Tuesday or Wednesday and this will hopefully happen without interruption. Following this, I'd like to see how the new server is going before I make any announcements as to resolving the issues that currently affect site performance. I don't want to say anything prematurely.

Think this is the way the internet will slowly go, i.e user pays for everything you do.

Just wait until the wonderful "cloud" which is free at the moment will demand payment for retrieval of your files such as pictures, music and the like.

Even some printers demand connection to the cloud even to print out your own material.

That is why one gets bombarded with demands to set up accounts with cloud based services.

Exactly. I only use the "cloud" as a means of sending something to someone else, never as primary storage.

Some "smart" phones have the cloud set as the default storage area. A friend of mine's wife was in a panic when photos she took for her interior decorating business disappeared from her phone. She was greatly relieved when she found them in the cloud space, but was totally unaware they would be sent there automatically.

The problem with photo sites other than photobucket is try finding one that not only has the link, that takes you to the photo, but also has a link for embedding the photo in a forum .so it shows without the need to click on a link
Which is the way I like to do it.
No link !

Some photo sites have annoying query string syntax which interferes with forums too. One example is Flickr, which has a . symbol right in the middle of theirs and that blocks this website's ability to automatically convert URL text to a link because the forum deems anything with the . as an e-mail address and converts the . to a photo of an . to block spam robots from harvesting any e-mail addressed included in posts.

Cloud computing isn't a new phenomenon, it's just a new buzzword used for marketing purposes.

imgur provides those links. You just press the relevant COPY button and then paste it.

Hi G,
Thanks mate, I am a bit concerned about this whole photo bucket drama, Becuase I'm half way though posting the cabinet Restoration posts .
Im not sure when photostuffit is going too pull the plug ,so to speak.
I will check out that site you mentioned and see if I can finish the cabinet post with that site. Its a lot of work in those posts and I dont want loose the photos ,because photobucket has some crazy idea about charging 400 per year to allow links.
All the best Pete

PB just hit me with a ransom demand icon for an avatar I had on another forum, so I changed it immediately to imgur.

Really! PB has become a nightmare. Like many other sites that have now gone to the dogs.
I like to read the news about the saga in Korea,, thats going on. Many of the articles are subscription only now and they can have it , because ive got enough bills already.
Pete
