Anyone from this group going to the HRSA Radio Fest in April?
I am flying down from northern NSW.
Anyone in this group live in Melbourne, what is the quickest cheapest way of getting from Tullamarine Airport to Moorabbin please.

I'd like to go but I don't think I will get the chance this time.
UPDATE: Some directions have been provided by the HRSA:-
Melbourne Airport to Southern Cross station by airport bus.
Probably Southern Cross station to Moorabbin station. Town Hall is about 3 min walk from station.

Going to the fest I will be but if I had a choice id not be going, i'm only going on the last day thank Christ and for a few hours. Been to 3 of their 6 big Canberra ones that have taken place over the years, total flops but good places to go if you want to lose your shirt financially.
One I went to I was fed offal for food - it was shocking like prison food, you line up with a plate slap goes the tucker on the plate you hear a little voice in the line up saying ''thanks warden''!!
The you move onto the stalls area its like Portobella Road in old London, you can buy anything but buyer beware as there is lots of good gear, but also lots of cobbled up crap to.
These big fests are very expensive to go to the organisers have the clouded vision that all the humble hobbyists have won tatts and are millionaires, the cost to go are outrageous like motels to stay at, lots of people travel from interstate etc plane fares hire cars, its a joke I have one mate lives in Pt Hedland, WA wanted to go to the fest, well plane fares - Pt Hedland to Melbourne he said I could have flown to USA cheaper. Motels in the Morrabbin area he said what a scam the prices they quoted him to stay two nights he said to them I just want to stay there, I don't want to buy the place.
After he had factored in all costs he said I would been up for like $2700 and he said well what do I get for that as reward ? to stand in a room full of radios, ive got a room at home full of radios lol lol. We are in a depressed economy and unlike other fests in the past I can honestly say that from 100 guys I thought would have been going - at least 65 of those are not - reason being lack of funds and a general lack of enthusiasm towards the radio hobby over the last 2 years has taken a toll.
For some reason not fully explained!!!! the radio hobby has taken a huge dive in both prices paid for goods, and the availability of rare goods being offered ! (these days everybody is trying to sell you their seconds or the cast offs) people are tired of that, they want to see some gold turning up for good old fashioned 1980s prices! In the present economy you should be able to purchase say a mint order Big brother Empire state radio for like $300 as we all did 20 years back, because everything has gone full circle now.
See you on the day !

Hi Airzone,
Melbourne based? ...... yes. Going? ...... probably not.
Brad answered your query re getting to Moorabbin .... but I thought that you might need your car to take all your 'booty' back up north ...
I am in the market for a Marconi R1155, preferably not 'restored', preferably intact as possible .... tightly held in Australia or huge price tags ....

Thanks for the negative feedback Steve. It seems it’s only done us good. With a record number of people attending the dinner we must be doing something right. Those who have been before know the treat they are in for and this one is no exception.
We deliberately didn’t comment because those who have been to either the Canberra or Melbourne Radio fest know almost everything you said was hogwash. Its been a great advertisement for us.
You obviously have caviar tastes and we don’t. We must really be gluttons for punishment as many of us lined up for seconds with the fabulous food at Canberra. Some even managed thirds.
You talk about the availability of rare goods being offered has taken a dive. Perhaps it's because more people are joining societies so the rare goods that are sought, are even rarer.
With a record number of new applicants joining up in March (normally a quiet month), I am not sure if we thank you for this as well.
See you Sunday!

As an attendee at most of the fests in both Canberra and Melbourne, I thoroughly second the thoughts expressed by Jime above.
I have enjoyed every aspect of these events, including the catering, but more importantly the chance to see radios I could only dream about owning, finding that elusive part and of course, renewing old and making new friendships.
Only health issues prevent my attendance this time and I commend the event to both old and new members.

Drop dead Jime you Peasant))) find yourself a truck and dive under it! ''My Surrey Hills man and expelled one from Elwood tell me your up there right in the thick of it, in among the grave robbers''))) but fear not you won't be left out of the story, after all your one of the main characters !!. Bloody nickel and dime hobos, with nothing else to do except invent funny stories and go for Goat rides lol.
