Does anyone know if B batteries are still available any where? I use a battery made from ten 9V batteries in a box at present but a real B battery would be nice.

G'day Mark,

There aren't any A, B or C batteries made these days because there aren't any appliances made now that require them. Unfortunately all of these batteries need to be made up from what is commonly available. 9V batteries are good for making B batteries and A batteries usually can be made from a couple of D cells wired in series/parallel combinations, depending on the voltage required. In some cases the A battery you make may require a small voltage-dropping resistor in series with the valve heaters.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

Not sure about Australia, but Antique Electronic Supply,
tubesandmore.com has them listed.

2008 prices $US Eveready 415 45V $16.95 455 $23.95

That's why I made a battery eliminator for the Kellogg I recenlty repaired.

So far as I know, 467's, 415's, 412's and 416's are still being made. Larger batteries like the 482 are no longer being made, and I suspect that's the one you need. The last time I've seen them listed as available was around 1985.

A compromise would be building a box to the same size as a 482 with the appropriate socket.

Also, there's Tony Maher's MOSFET DC-DC converters. 90 volts from six AA batteries.
