I have an old Healing Imperial 556E in the shed which I have been meaning to restore. It has a silver plaque attached to it saying.
Presented to J. Clark Scott, Golden Voice of the Air for 1936. Sponsored by AG Healing.

Healing Plaque

I found the following on information TROVE;

"GOLDEN VOICE OF THE AIR"
The final of the 3UZ- Healing quest for The Golden Voice of the Air for 1936 will be held In the Melbourne Town Hill tomorrow night.
The final competitors are, Miss Lottie Daniels, Miss Muriel Clark, Miss Betty Green, Mr Alfredo Luizi, Mr John Clinton, Mr Will Mc Diarmid, Mr Anthony Strange and Mr Clark Scott who will each sing two songs. The concert will commence at 8 o'clock.
The adjudicators will be Mr George English and Mr Harold Elvins.
A small entrance fee will he charged. Booking is now open at Sutton's and O J Nilsen's, 4 Bourke Street.

From The Argus, Melbourne Victoria July 21, 1936.

A search on his name revels he was a famous tenor in the 30’s.

Does anyone know anything about him?

Very interesting.

Would have thought that his family -- if any -- would have wanted to keep that set.

I reckon that story and question would make a good Letter to the Editor of Silicon Chip.

If you consider doing that, image quality is everything. Make sure there are decent photos of inside the pan, as received & after photo's if you do any restoration /conservation work.

The chassis, knobs and dial are all in good condition. However someone in their wisdom has painted the cabinet with Estapol Stain and the speaker grill cloth is copper fly wire!

This is a very interesting project. I would be considering taking the engraving to a Jeweller to see if they can do a restoration of it.

A nice radio and a bit of history to go with it. Good luck with the restoration and hope to see some photos when all is done.
