My mother is wishing to sell the old valve radio that belonged to my late father. He had it restored a few years ago and it looks to be in excellent condition and works well I believe.

What sort of value would this unit have and where would be the best place to sell it?

I am in Mount Eliza in Victoria.

Any advice or direction would be appreciated.

If it's the one I'm thinking of don't sell it for anything less than 1500 dollars. I'm sure it is worth more can you send Brad some pictures.

Ebay is probably the easiest and quickest way. Put it on for 10 days and start the price low. It should go off for around the $1,800 to $2,300 mark if it is complete and in good nick. It doesn't have to work - this is a highly sought after radio and the lucky buyer will usually be able to restore it electronically or know someone who can do it for them.

These are a fairly rare radio. Astor didn't make many of them because they simply made them too well and couldn't profit from it. There's enough Bakelite in the cabinet to make three or four Astor Mickeys.

The radio shouldn't be plugged in and tried unless it has already been restored. Doing so can damage the radio or blow your fuses.

Astor JN is very sought after and not a lot were made - one in top order undamaged missing nothing, feasibly its worth from $1,700 to $2,300 don't take less that $1,500
In 1999 they fetched $1,550 ( that is what I got for mine and I had more people at the door to buy it, than Myers after Christmas rush!

Do not let it go cheap !

To the owner of the JN, don't let the slime bags steal it from you - that is for sure ----------there are plenty wearing dark hoods you know ''words Cartel'' written in red on the hood brim ). They will tell you its worth ''sixpence halfpenny'' just be careful make sure you see the bux first.
Don't take it to the slime bag in the bat-cave in Melbourne --- he'l steal it from you !
You can't miss the shop there is a flowing trickle of Green slime in the doorway - that comes from the owner -- he shed's his skin once a month, he has to do that to dispel the build up of his venom !

You know Anzac day tomorrow ! you know the giant remembrance boards thousands names on them that died in the war! Well in the bat cave they tell me there is a board of names that rivals the Anzac board in names ............but its all the victims of scams !

Be careful, if you wish to sell it mate, I can save you all the grief for a JN .... I can put you onto a decent fellow ( that has not served time) to buy your set cash ----------at your sensible price !
