This is my soon to be wife's Peal mantle radio, which I found on ebay in supposedly restored condition, however the rust evident on the rear of the chassis makes me wonder at the extent of the restoration, so that I will pull her apart at some stage out of curiosity to see what exactly has been done. I bought it for her as a kitchen radio, as every transistorised radio she has ever bought will not get reception in our home in Clare, yet the old valve jobs, connected to a long wire aerial are clear as a bell. It is apparently a Peal and almost identical to the Airzone Cub, indeed a lovely little kitchen radio and she is very pleased with it. Any tips on cleaning up the chassis at the rear appreciated!
PS I think it is from around 1946 (Guessing)

There is an article on the restoration of a 1950 Airzone Cub here, on which your receiver is based. These are fairly no-frills radios with simple circuits and are a good model to cut one's restoration teeth on.

This radio was available with a Bakelite cabinet in many colours and went into the 1950s being fitted with baseless valves and a second cabinet styling. These variations can be seen in the photo below.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...
