Now that the sale of my collection has been and gone, I would like to note that the whole task was made much easier because I had all the radios listed in a spreadsheet, added to as each new radio followed me home. I have long been an advocate of this process, for insurance purposes, to assist in the eventual disposal of a collection and simply to know what you have.

To encourage you to start this process, if you haven't done so already, I can provide an Excel template so that you only have to fill in the blanks.

Very good idea for those with sizeable collections.

(Mine is limited to a handful that have nostalgic value to me.)

I have a bigger problem GTC, that being that I have a couple of hundred that are nostalgic. I keep thinking about doing another catalogue and I did have one back in my early days as a collector - back before Microsoft Excel became a household item but as radios got horse-traded a few times over the years I've gotten more of them and only a few were with me in the beginning.

It's probably time for me to start from scratch. Shock

And yes, photos are a good idea too. I note that there's a column for photos in the spreadsheet.

A couple of hundred is indeed a management problem.

Nostalgia for me is limited to the valve radios owned by my family and my grandparents on both sides. Easy to store and manage!

A couple of hundred is indeed a management problem.

It is somewhat cumbersome. I am getting ready to move house again - in a few months and currently have my collection split over three sites. A few on display where I am living, many dozen in a storage lockup and many dozen more at a relative's house. One day they will all be reunited and tastefully displayed in my loungeroom and perhaps a few in the bedroom. I am looking forward to it.

Absolutely hate moving house. That's why I busted a gut over many years to buy mine.

The next time I move I figure it will be to the mortuary or to the funny farm. Smile

Not many of the latter left. I worked at Gladesville Hospital in the early 1990s - I did my apprenticeship there. When I left in 1994 they pretty much closed the doors.
The other option I reckon we'll all get to as one stage or another.

Try moving Farm house on ones own: Took almost a month, & that did not involve moving a lot of the engineering stuff as it was already where I was going and had been for 30 years.

The messiest move I ever made was from one side of a house to the other. House was divided into two units. Without a deadline and a waiting moving van to fill, I just couldn't get myself motivated and organised, and it took about 2 weeks to complete.

I had the motivation, I sold that bit & had to be out by the end of the month. Some stuff had been shifted well before that. The annoyance was that for decades, if you needed to do some major welding, or turning & fitting, it was a 2Km drive to go do it.
