Thanks G,
Its been over 20 years since I walked away from the car industry. I was involed in car building and the restoration of vintage sports cars.
But I still have some contacts.
A guy I know from years ago is in the panel trade, so I sent him some photos of the damage and he said its going to be over 2500 easy.
He said the insurance company wiil get a quote, then they may or may not look at it themselves, but either way they would send me the money that was on the quote.
The choice would mine if I wanted to repair it or scap it.
I kinda need the money to get anther car so I have no choice but to chase this lady up .
Pete

I once backed a school bus into a Ford Focus. Damage was barely more than a scratch but because it was on the door skins below the B pillar it was regarded as structural damage, requiring the replacement of both doors.
That little exercise cost my employer's insurer the best part of $6,500.00 - all for a tiny car that is as long as the bus was wide. Granted, the car was only a few weeks old but back a few years, the metal would have been pulled out as much as could be, then bogged up, a quick coat of spray putty, a sand and then two coats of Duco.
The car repair industry is a bloody rort these days.

Its labour costs , plus the doors locks and central locking are broken and the door is too bad to be repaired. Nothing is cheap to get done anymore, times move on.We live in a city where house prices start at 1 mil! And the 3 bedroom house to rent down the end of my street is 850 per week!! Gosh ! Its nothing fancy at all. Its just a average looking house from the outside.
Im glad its not me paying that every week!

Yes, the 'plastic and tin' cars these days are easily written off. You only need to walk around a wreckers yard to see what little damage now constitutes a repairable write-off.

Go to Youtube and search for "car crash", and you can see even a very low-speed frontal collision results in hundreds of small pieces spewing out of the engine compartment all over the road and the car becoming a write-off.
Cars are going the way of all other appliances in the throw-away society - not meant to be repaired, but replaced instead.

This is true and thats a problem with the way we think.
I was not brought up in a throw away society, nor were the folks here that are older than what I am.
Its a different culture to how my family taught me to think.
Remember what was drummed into us,
Waste not ,,want not , their striving in china so eat what you got ! ,
My dear old mum the drummer!!

Well, she answered the phone today and said she has been away.
She said she has contected her insurance company and they will contact me regarding where to take the car for the damage quote.
I have got her details over the phone of rego number etc etc so I guess I just wait and see what happens over the next couple of days

Good news for you, but don't count those chickens until the cheque arrives, to mix a metaphor.
BTW: That image link makes the page display following it go weird in Firefox.

Guys, please proof-read your posts, especially when pasting links. I will need to sort this mis-format out tonight when I'm on my laptop.
On an unrelated note, I've been correcting millions of spelling errors of late and this takes time away from my big project - fixing this site. This needs closer attention.

There is no Edit button to edit it with? Its disappeared?
If there are typo spelling errors, I dont see that as a major problem .Its a vintage radio forum ,not a English site and that would not be the cause of the technical problems.

There is one for each post (only the poster can edit their own comments) but because there are incomplete tags in the HTML of someone's post (I can't work out which one yet - I'll have to manually fix it on the database) a web browser is ignoring any HTML tags that follow it.
My guess is it's the IMGUR link but that isn't always the case. Either way, don't worry, as it can be fixed. It's just something we all (me included) have to watch for.
