I hope you dont think I was having a go at you Brad because I fully understand how things go.
Not at all. It's just the way the bikkies crumble sometimes.

Here is the Hotpoint version of my mothers AWA Mantle Radio. It was 45 bucks and am looking forward to getting it going again.

Wow that was quick. I was into collecting matchbox cars and sort of still am. It adds a little more interest into the hobby when the same model comes out in different colours and then brands.

Brad,
Thanks for posting a link to that photo of that 880 series that I sorted (previous page). As said that was one of the only fixers where I have been asked to sort the cabinet as well.
That set was very original & had not been knocked about as the not missing celluloid of the front is testament to. I did resort to getting the spray job done by the right professional and it looks like it. The finish on it was crazed & stuffed & the decal is new.
No apologies for that, it just had to look right & I even measured the position where the old one sat.
Sometimes you just have to go that one step toward perfection to get an elated customer.
Marc

Marcc that one step further in my case is the most important thing sometimes. If a minor thing is just not right then it erks me. I must be my own worst boss but I tell you when I get it right then I'm as proud as punch. To tell you the truth what hit me the most was the HMV Decal on the top because it just looked right. The attention to detail was awesome And yes Brad the volume of this old girl is really up there.

Tallar Carl: that radio should work well once you've replaced the caps, particularly the black ones. Those radios had shortwave as an option, although it looks like yours only has the broadcast band.
----------
Talking about prices for old radios, I just spent a few days down Mittagong way, while escaping from Sydney's crazy heat. I visited a couple of antique stores.
One had a standing console (like the ones Brad had), for a price of $495. There was also a mantel radio (Welburn brand?) for a crazy price of $995. Both had ordinary octal valves, so I guess mid to late 40s.
Then I went across the street to the other shop, there was a small empire state shape, and a tiny Mickey, both were priced at over $2650 each (no warranty, "never turned on"). Out the back was a large table radio, I can't remember the brand, but it has knobs on the sides, and a glass dial that pokes out the top and is easily lost. It was a somewhat more reasonable $380. No surprise that those radios have been there for a while.

Antiques shop owners must love things that collect dust.

Sounds like a Philips or Mullard.
