As that volume control seems to have a terminal for negative feedback it is possibly salvage. Otherwise if the schematic shows negative feed back it wired wrong.

This radio sounds surprisingly good. Plenty of volume but no agc. My next step is to check the alignment as it's very quite on the left hand side of the dial. It still picks up stations there but very faint. I haven't got far to go till it's complete.

That UCC cap, witch is probably cathode bypass, or screen decoupling, common with 6K8, it has to go, if it hasn't already?

I usually do an IF alignment with a Signal Generator and Oscilloscope relatively early that tells me if there is distortion& the IF & audio are working as they should be.

6B6 is a tube that I would expect to find with AVC / AGC

Marcc the UCC cap is gone now. It wasn't a electro. It was actually a .1 μF 500 volt . I was quite surprised by that. I initially thought it was a bypass electro .

Highly likely an "oil filled". They tend to have a reliability comparable with waxed-paper. A lot are just a waxed type paper in a sardine can full of oil. Which the ones in the BC-221-N Frequency Meter here were leaking out, due to the seals failing. As it was RF, I re-stuffed the cans to shield the caps.

The oil in oil filled caps can be polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) which are carcinogenic so take care with these caps and their disposal.
