One should also not that with some companies, in particular here. Electronic spares are provided at several hundred percent over the cost of what it would have been built for in SE Asia.

Age hasn't got much bearing on gruffness these days. Most new school buildings have air conditioning systems that would bankrupt a household budget in terms of running costs. Kids have it all laid on. When I was at school, if a classroom had a pair of creaky, out of balance ceiling fans then that was a luxury. We were allowed to take our ties off if the temperature hit 40 degrees.

That was about it. We got by because we simply didn't know any different.

A valve a day keeps the transistor away...

Well I'm confident my electricity bill will be well below zero this year. The solar panels have been fully paid off for over a year now and I haven't paid a cent in electricity.

Interesting:

I have a 29 year old ride on Mower & I was amazed that I could do a work around on a failed sprocket on the transmission. It had chomped up Nylon rollers on the chain tensioner and the great thing there is that I just turned new ones to replace them. they lasted about 500 hrs in a hostile environment.

With things with boards: I got a call out on a very old CIG non-inverter type Gas Mig welder yesterday, with a wire feed failure. I noted that the coating on its control board was a bit tired. However, I was lucky, all it needed was to reflow the solder on the headers as the, bond had cracked on a couple, cleaned it recoated it and its back in service.

That's what I love about the old Grey Fergy: Ignition switch wore out: Off the shelf part. Blew the head gasket: Annoying Everything to fix it & resultant general overhaul :Off the shelf parts. Age of unit 72 years.
