Well I guess it is decision time.
Do any of you out there want to buy it as it is? I have removed the speaker to prevent it being damaged during a clean up process I would refitt it . It is not mine if someone would like to buy it as it is I will contact Tony . If it was mine I would be happy just to pass it on ,but it is not. If I get no expressions of interest in the next 24 hours I will get stuck into it. Tony is a decent bloke and does not have dollar signs in front of his eyes . If it is a yes from someone . Can they pick it up from his place Gwynville basically West Wollongong only a spit from the hospital. You would would then have the opertuneity of looking at his Alladins Cave of vintage electronics he needs to get rid of.
Hoping for a positive reply. I can always go back to staring at the ceiling with nothing to do!
Kind regards Jim

That is the odd thing about this model - on all cabinet colours the knobs were red, except the red Mullard, which was fire engine red. The "red" knobs for the other colours, including walnut, white and duck egg blue, were a dark red colour.

Most medium to large knob collections will contain a set for this radio. They were reasonably commonplace radios.

JimB,

That set does not look too bad!
Thats the sort of project I like.
It has to be saved.

Just needs a bit of a polish on the cabinet and and a whip through the electronics to get it going!
Ok, probably needs some TLC as well.
At the moment no way can I drive to pick it up, but if you could post it to me I could at first do a evaluation and report and what I would propose to do.
I do not need to be paid for that or even brining it to a first working state, I like fixing things more than I need money.
At my pace of course, I do not do commercial repairs or work to a timetable!
I leave that to Marc!!
View that as an option.
Oh I would always look at a few old little sets to fix up as payment for doing something, rather than money.

Cheers, Fred.

Hi Fred.
I was going to tackle it myself.
Not sure where it is heading at the moment.
Regards Jim

Looked though my collection and found the Model 100.

Someone has painted the cabinet white, hard to tell the original colour, kind of dull white with a blue tinge (I strongly suspect "duck-egg blue"). The knobs are white too, although the original maroon is showing through. The Philips badge is missing.

There are various cracks in the cabinet and a small piece is missing at the back. I don't know if it should have a back cover, but it was never there since I bought it.

I had to replace the speaker transformer with a tiny one that came from a tape recorder - there isn't much space.

With my finger as an antenna and the volume at full, it can pick up various Sydney stations at moderate volume, at the Hill Top location.

Valves: ECH35 (no red paint), EBF35, 6X5GT/G, 6V6GT.

With regard to the photos, I can see two black capacitors that are cracked and useless. One of them is completely cracked in half.

Hi Robbert.
I am aware of all its faults I was just trying to identify what it is so I can commence repairs on it.
The crook capacitors would be changed and are not an issue.
The power transformer has broken windings and needs to be replaced .The underside of the chassis is in excellent condition.
If you are interested in buying it as it is I will submit your offer to Tony. The guy who owns it.
Otherwise I will get stuck into it.
I have no actual interest in it other than something to occupy my mind with.
Regards Jim.

Uh, no thanks, one is enough. Besides I ran out of room a few years back and no longer look for radios.

Come on GTC Robert, just one more.

I was reading the US forums once and someone's signature there reads "he who dies with the most radios wins".

Not bad, but then I thought... What do they win?

Its's amazing what those Yanks do. Entertaining & bewildering at times and a great place to learn what not to do. As noted I am a moderator on that site.

If the paint is Acrylic (normally ceiling) don't do anything radical & Silicone & anything containing Soda Ash, is not wise on Bakelite cabinets. The Bakelite exudes Formaldehyde & that will destroy the bond between cabinet & paint & a fingernail will remove it.

It may pay to clear (may have to) the top of the chassis. Photograph, mark wires & can orientation well & measure coil resistance & record on circuit ( Senior moment control).

Win: Perhaps Jealousy from the trolls, or just kudos: perhaps?

Come on GTC, just one more.

I think you mean Robbbert.

In any case, I also have hit my limit years ago. I only collected the radios that my family and extended family owned, that is, the ones I grew up with. Apart from a particular model of crystal set, the only one I don't have is a large radiogram from the 1920s, but no room for that even if I could find one.
