Bit the same with the 1958 Zephyr if one needs a Ute, or Ute & Trailer for a job then one uses it. As noted somewhere, its still on road rego with its original plates. For a good reason the trailer is also registered.

I did not recall details of the Deltic engine correctly. It actually has 3 crankshafts, but no cylinder heads (or valves & cams), so is the inverse concept to a Radial engine - both implementations, though, having excellent power-to-weight ratios!

Those Commers used to be everywhere here years ago. I'm lucky to see one a year now and usually a well restored showpiece than a workhorse. That engine had a good power output for its size, and the time.

Commer,. There is one kicking around and it's owned by this young guy. I met him and we spoke , in the last 3 inches of the exhaust pipe he has a spark plug, this spark plug is connected to a coil and the button to turn it on is on the dash ! What it does is ignite the unburned fumes at the end of the pipe and the van than backfires and shoots a flame out the exhaust , haha bloody nut ! He is only young ,. 20 ,22 it made me laugh head off!

He will eventually blow up the muffler.
Many years back I had an XC Falcon with LPG dual fuel.
In Ford's infinite wisdom they put the distributor near the front of the motor and down low so it would catch maximum spray in the wet.
It used to cut out and re fire during heavy rain.
One day on a very busy road in a severe storm it began to splutter and misfire.
It then lost power completely but there was nowhere to pull over so I kept my foot on the accelerator hoping it would fire up again.
A few seconds passed and then "BOOM" .
It fired up alright and blew the muffler to bits.
It had filled the muffler with unburnt LPG and then ignited it.
Scared the daylights out of me and most likely anyone nearby.

We used to do something similar just to scare everyone when driving through 'High Street' shopping villages. Drive down the street, turn the engine off for five seconds and then turn back on but not far enough o crank the engine. A second or two later ….. *BaNg* !!!.
Once I just did it once too often and it blew the arse out of my muffler. Similar story to the comment above.
Fortunately, mufflers for Toranas at the time were not that expensive.
