Another courier story.

Today I stayed at home waiting for a delivery from Fastway Couriers. The seller in question refused to mail this item to my PO Box, always my preferred method of receiving deliveries.

Wondering where this guy was, at 2.30pm I looked up the tracking data and found this:

"14:11:48 We've attempted to deliver your parcel however no one was available. For your convenience we'll be dropping your parcel to your nearest Parcel Connect agent."

Huh? Nobody knocked. No card under the door, nor in the letter box.

It so happens that the nearest agent is a shop within walking distance, so I collected the parcel from there and noticed a long list of items on the book for today. Another case of a depot dump instead of delivery. That must be what they mean by the Fastway.

I really ought to get CCTV for these couriers.

This 2010 undercover story about Britain's Royal Mail gives an insight into what is probably also happening here, in places, including aspects of ye olde "British Disease":

They're still at it.

Ordered an item on Tuesday 19th from Marrickville (NSW) for next day delivery. Tracking shows it appearing on Thursday 21st in Sunshine VIC, then Chullora NSW on Friday 22nd. Finally received it today.

I guess AusPost thinks next week is close enough to next day.

And they wonder why the only profit-making entity relating to Australia Post was their former CEO. I don't remember his name but he was on a tidy pay packet.

The Six Million Dollar Man. Resigned the minute he heard that he was to front a Senate Estimates Committee.

That's right. Five year contract and more than three mill after tax per annum. His holiday retreat would have guards at every gate to keep the media, and probably even the police, out.

Plus bonus. In his first year he was awarded a bonus of $2 million.

I've had pretty good experience with stuff mailed from overseas, but occasionally something from a reputable sender went missing and I occasionally wondered if it went to Austria instead.

This story makes me suspect I was right:
