I do love that valve one and intend to build one myself BUT am going
to try another transistor version on Ebay for $18 as in the Adelaide we
have a station at 1323kHz so may have an issue at 1308 BUT have plenty of space
at 1500-1600kHz and if it works is another option.

Well I didn't specifically intend to build a transistor jobbie, it was just a pragmatic decision, it was only going to cost a mere fifteen bucks, so If I bottled it royally, I wouldn't be too distraught, but I lucked in and the doo dad worked! I'm not anti-modern in regard to AM tuners, it's just with over 20 valve radio's around the place and more I wish I had, I just can't say no to them, which I'd be doing by default if I acquired something other than another valve radio! Whether that makes sense or not is most likely relative, my wife thinks I'm mad about these things, but I know it!

Having done it, a dual gate FET makes a mixer. I did actually put a pot in the audio, so that the modulation could be changed.
