Can anyone help me with information on a circa 1934 five valve Australian superhet going by the name of Lewbury/Lectric. I am drawing a blank from all the usual sources, but have one internet search from the classified adds of the 'West Australian' newspaper dated 1934 that a "Lewbury" was on sale for 4 Pounds 10 Shillings from a dealer in Hay St, Perth, WA.

I just did a Trove search, typing just Lewbury, and found a lot of advertising mainly in Queensland newspapers from the early 1930's. Most of the advertising was for Lewbury 'Lectric transformers, chokes & battery eliminators for radios. I'm guessing Lewbury 'Lectric was a Queensland based firm that started off making transformers, chokes & battery eliminators, then later on built radio sets as well.

Thank you Monochrome625, you have confirmed my suspicions that the electronics were built by a component manufacturer and then sold to various radio outlets to put in there own cabinet. The rear of the chassis has an embossed metal seal just like the old red wax seals used on legal documents in the past, it reads - "this seal is your protection a genuine Lewbury/Lectric chassis" there is no other information, serial numbers etc anywhere to be found. If you let us know the valve line-up in that set we may be able to determine what chassis it is.

Further to my previous post, the only place I could find that sold Lewbury 'Lectric transformers, chokes and battery eliminators was Trackson Bros. of Brisbane. The battery eliminators were sold in kit-form and in ready-made units.

Trackson Bros. were a Radio & Electrical retailer and have advertisments in the AORSM manuals. It is quite possible that Lewbury 'Lectric could of been one their house brands.

Valve line-up is 57, 58, 57, 59 & an 80 rect, circuit seems to be very similar to the 'Tasma' mantel broadcast model 180, however there are some value differences and the oscillator coil/circuit is totally different. There are two separate 2.5v heater windings, one supplies the 57,58,59 & the other the 59, one side being grounded on both. Only two gangs on the tuning capacitor so I guess a 400 something I.F. Mains transformer, tuning capacitor, antenna & oscillator coils are all mounted under the chassis which makes it very difficult to work on. Very close but physical positioning of valves and IF's are different, but as I said very close, could be a good copy. Will now try for a circuit to compare, thanks all, Mike

This can be done but not before Christmas at the earliest. Unfortunately work has put a halt to any major upgrade plans I've hatched in the last year or so.
