My Toyota ute is 20 years old now so I expect to pay more for greenslips as a rule.
Now mostly I register it for 6 months at a time and when I lived in sydney the cost was 580 dollars for a 6 month green slip.
Well now I live in Albury and its rego week and the price of the green slip is 260 dollars so I asked why??
Post code ,green slips are less then half price ,yet I was always told the higher cost while in sydney was due to the age of my ute!
Never had a claim or a smash , but its the post code that makes it cheap not my history.
Odd!

Pete

Rural areas have always been cheaper for all kinds of insurance. As for classification of vehicles, utes with open trays have traditionally been more expensive than panel vans and wagons where the load is enclosed. The fault there lies with people who just throw things in the back with the she'll be right attitude - thins like Oxy bottles, cement mixers, wheel barrows, etc. People like that ruin it for everyone else.

Interstate trucking firms bear the plates of the cheapest state for rego and insurance.

That's a lot of money for a green slip, and I thought mine was expensive.

My car is 24 years old, and it costs $435 for a whole year.

I regard third party as a tax, and so each year I'll use the green slip calculator to find the cheapest supplier. The company I chose has been the cheapest for a number of years.

I have currently 5 registrations; One trailer, Tractor & Bike Primary producer; Ute (1958) Pensioner other full.

Ute has not been put on Historic type registration as it is the tow motor for the farm.

I like how the fund levy got shifted off rego papers onto greenslips so that people will think it is the insurers that are tearing them a new one instead of the government. It's a government levy that funds whatever the Motor Accidents Authority is called these days.

I remember years ago when rego and green slip was all in the one and done at the RTA.
Then it was out sourced and split into 2.
At first it was a bit cheaper and then the prices just got higher.
But as I said above this year was good for me as the priced dropped to half .

When the greenslips came in, I remember the price dropping by about 50% after GIO had their dominance ripped away from them. One year I paid about $180.00. Like you said, Pete, it didn't last long.

The reason is all to do with what the Americans call Ambulance Chasers. No win, no fee lawyers.

Ain't we lucky in SA! My car is 94 years old (1926 Dodge Buckboard) and costs me $125 for 3 years registration with 90 days use per year, to enter in a log book. Date / SA roads and signature is all I need to record. Can't beat that!

Come on JL that's not cheap!
My 64 Morris costs me $0.0 for full road registration 365 days a year...………….. how good is that?
(sorry I channeled Scotty from advertising just then).
Good on yer Gladys!
Only catch is you have to be a poor pensioner with a begging bowl, like me.
Fred.

Not sure about other states but people can get a discount on their licence in NSW if they do not get infringed for any traffic offence within a certain timeframe.

Talking of car costs, my Toyota Insurance just turned up for the Yaris at $1,329 for the year. !!!!!!!
Was $830 last year.
Anybody else got a similar comparison?

Fred.

Fred, time to change insurers. You're a victim of the loyalty tax.

When I first got my Lancer, NRMA quoted over $1100 for it. So I went elsewhere.
