We all regret parting with something we either sold or gave away !
I've been collecting 50s and 60s items for over 20 years now and I have huge amounts of it ,but a few Items I let go over the years I regreted and one was a beautiful Radiogram.
A Guy I know who was in the 1960s band called the Atlantics , to which I'm sure some of you guys remember? Opened a Record shop here in Sydney and I would pop in most weeks for a chat or buy some Records about 10 years ago I guess. Anyway one day I went there to buy records and have a chat and in the front window was a absolutely beautiful JVC Nivico Radiogram that was fully imported from the 1962 Japanese electronic festival.
But it had a hefty price on it of 2500, The lady who owned it went to the electronic festival in Japan in 1962 and bought it , Then shipped it back to Oz.
Well 2500, was just out of the question for me so I had to stop dreaming !!!
Time went by and one day I went back to the Record shop to chat with my friend and the Radiogram was no longer in the window and was out the back broken down!!!!
😁😁😁😁😁😁 Oh heres my chance ,, hey Bosco ! I'll give ya $250 bucks for it? Arrrr ok take it !!!

Well it was only a mechanical issue and it than sat in my lounge room pumping out music for years and years!
Than years later it developed other issue and needed some recapping , but in those days I did not I know, what I know now about repairing and recapping chassis so when a friend asked could he have it I said yes........I later find out he stripped it out for parts !!!
Such is life , I have some very nice radiograms now , but that JVC Nivico would of been the pride of the fleet!

No I've tried , can't find one . I do believe it was sold in the USA under the name of Victor. But Ive never seen another one like it..
Japanese don't do things by halves ,it was a beauty.

No luck G , nothing like it on there . I was told it was the only one in Australia ,but that does not mean there were none overseas, but Ive never seen one.
I have pictures of it on my old Mac, but it no longer boots up and I need to pay a guy to try and recover the old photos on it. I had the Mac for 6 years with no problem and then it stopped booting up and no I was not backing up often

Years and years ago I had a mottles white AWA fret and foot. My mother gave it to me after finding it in a second hand shop in Colac (western Victoria). I restored the electronics and polished the cabinet and put it on display. However I've always preferred 1920s sets, so when I was desperate for money to move house I put it up for sale on ebay. This was in the first year or so of ebay and I was a complete novice with online selling. I also didn't have a clue what the radio was worth. About an hour after posting the radio a guy form Perth contacted me and made an offer - which seemed good, and I ended the auction and sold it. Then all the emails started pouring in - "where's the radio - I'll offer you....." Its only then that I asked others what it was worth and then realised the painful truth that I had sold the radio for an absolute bargain. Such is life, but I did learn to always search completed listings for prices, ask others, and never end auctions early!

beautiful JVC Nivico Radiogram

Was that JVC the one I'm thinking of: kind of small with glossy wood finish, and had stereo phono but no FM, only AM & SW?

It was about 4 foot long and and small Slade legs at 45 degree,
Piano finish on it with No FM and a reverb function which was like a vibrating plate in the underbelly of the cabinet.
The front of the stereogram had gold cloth which was full frontal and on the side of the unit there were 2 swinging doors as it was a 6 speaker unit and the normal top lid opened up to display the turntable and radio.
Still heart broken! Hahah

Yep I did the same thing with a rare car once as I had things going on in my life and just wasn't thinking clearly.... It was a costly boo boo

I think the JVC I picked up (off the street!) was definitely smaller (its little brother) (not a bad thing because, as you know, with collectables "smaller is better"), in this case more like 3ft wide, light, easy to lift, early 60's transistor, with phono, AM, SW (no FM), glossy reddish cabinet, very pretty grille fabric & emblem that were both illuminated by indirect red light! It was traded off to one friend, then another where it now sits in back of storage truck on a farm, will get a picture soon.

Yeah , in the states there are a lot more Nivico products kicking around the place ,but here in Oz they never come up! Only the helmet TVs.
I have never seen or come across a 60s Nivico Radiogram here in Oz apart from the one I had and I'm very involved with old stuff being bought and sold.
But in the states I see them under the name of Victor , Nivico and similar models. One day when I win lotto I will go to the states and fill a shipping container with junk and bring it home to play with.

I actually don't like the predicta. I know lots of people love them but I don't.
There are some English sets I think look great! And some other sets I have seen in the USA . Also I think maybe the liking of a set or a radiogram is geographic! It's what we remember of our past.

It doesn't appeal to me either, and I gather from various US sites that it was a low quality product.

Wow that's me shot down in flames.
It was a tongue in cheek suggestion.
I am aware of the short comings of the Predicta but they have a unique appearance and by all reports perform well when restored and I like a challenge.

Put it this way Ian , I think your w101 is far more appealing and we have a history of it being in Australia so that is also appealing.
