Now, I suspect that most of the regular contributors here would be aware that so-called "audiophiles" often have far more money than brains, however, if more proof was needed:

Their webmaster needs to sort out the dropdown menu, for a start. The pricing doesn't line up with the advertised price. The second thing is that they need to seriously stop using the letter Z to symbolise any superiority in their product, ie: "mainz" - what on God's earth does that mean?

I have a box of cables, with similar braiding and the ferrite cores, at work. They aren't the same brand or colour but do appear to be good quality. I doubt they are worth more than $25,000.00 each though. If they are worth that much I reckon I may sell three of them and buy myself a new car!

I had to check the date at the bottom of my screen for April 1 !!!!

What brain dead idiot would buy at that price...…….surely the decimal point is out of place?

Really, do people buy stuff like that for a mains cable...…..anyway?

Come on, if anybody on this forum buys and uses stuff like that, hop onto the keyboard and tell me why.
And don't try any b.....t science twaddle about inductances and oxygen free crap, I've been around too long for that.
Give me solid real earth reasons.
Fred.

The only thing that might make a difference is shielding over the mains conductors. To keep the hum in. The inverse of audio patch cords, er, interconnects, have shielding to keep the hum out. Some computer power cords had this. And what about the house wiring, which is likely just Romex (plastic jacketed bundle of solid wires). Maybe have an electrician replace that with some "BX" cable, metal armour jacket over the bundle of solid wires, these wires form a twisted pair). Similar to balanced microphone cable. But none of this needs oxygen free copper.... Smile

I always have a good chuckle when I hear people saying how much better their system sounds with "HIFI grade IEC Connectors".
A simple lesson in ohms law is seriously needed.
Still it is morally wrong for a fool and their money to remain together!!

That there were fools out there was realised by an American visionary: F. T. Barnum. He unashamedly proclaimed "That there was one born every day" and he was basically honoured to be chosen by the Lord: Just for them.

We should also appreciate, that when it comes to "Brain Washing", some only require a light rinse.

There are other references on another forum, to Audiophools.

Actually Barnum reputedly said there's a sucker born every minute. $13,000 mains cables ought to be branded 'Barnum'.

I've always said that any half decent audio amplifier will deal fairly with any signal in the human hearing range so it is pointless, in my view, to spend any serious money on an amplifier. They all amplify audio between 20Hz and 20kHz. Someone wanting good sound will probably want to spend some money on the speakers because this is where quality can differ. Not $30,000 plus though.

Then again, if one is super wealthy and has already got the Porsche in the garage, why not?

At the end of the day: Barnum was on (in) the money.

Then of course there was the one that paid a ransom for an "Air Guitar": Somewhere I perceive a vacuum.

Audiophools.

Once upon a time, though, there was a "directional" twin RCA audio cable being marketed to use with CD players.

Sounds like BS but there is actually some basis for it.

Many CD players had audio drivers that did not play well (ringing, overshoot) if there was some capacitance on the output.

These cables has a 470 ohm resistor inside the "source" plug, in series with the pin.

You could see the difference on a scope with test signals but I doubt that many would be able to pick it in a double-blind listening test.

Not worth anything like the asking price.

Now, now be fair! There is a finance option with a 55 days interest free period.

I agree that the claims are nonsense but if we put it into the context of vintage radio its not much different to what some people happy paid for 'state-of-the-art' radio sets in the 1920s. Zenith advertised a set in 1928 that was US$5000; they must have sold some at the time.

I would happily pay that sort of money for HiFi equipment if:

- I could afford it,

- I could come up with a suitably convincing excuse that my wife would accept (and she has heard and rejected most of them by now),

- my aged ears* could hear any difference from the modestly priced amp and speakers that I have and enjoy already.

* As I was in artillery and also worked on the flight line with military jet aircraft, even old 78s from the '20s and '30s sound perfectly fine to me. The only nice thing about tinnitus is that it masks any surface noise, tape hiss or hum.

Double inverted helix technology? Now that's a selling point! (whatever it is???)

Double inverted helix technology?

It's based on flux capacitors.
