Another fiction IMO is her claim to have written the "words & music" - umm, Ike, one of the greatest Pop musicians, handled the music.

Tina Turner has 89 songs listed on the BMI rights database as writer or co-writer. There is no co-writer listed for that song. Given its earning status I'm thinking there would have been a mighty legal battle long ago over the rights if anyone else had a legitimate and defensible royalty claim to it.

Yes, John Pierce had wonderful fun with the good citizens of Galargambone, he used to claim he flew over the area and there was nothing there! Went on for years about it not being there, I think he wound up having honory citizenship bestowed and opened up the Galagambone Festival or something one year. I cant remember the details now someone may have a better memory!


As for Nutbush, no its not a township anymore in the legal sense, but if you drive along highway 19 West towards Ripley and pass the 180 North turnoff, folks we are now in Nutbush (Zip code 38063)!!!! There is (or was) a couple of Baptist churches there and a big Mill and that folks is about all your goanna get! I think in its heyday there was a petrol station, general store and all the usual small town stuff in a group just past the 180 turn off. Maybe we have a VR member who lives in Tennessee and may know more.

Tina takes the opportunity to update and "upgrade" her tune - sans Ike - with her '90's version' -- it's woeful.

I really hate it when an artist redoes one of their classics (eg Tubular Bells II) They should just leave well enough alone. I want to hear it how it was, not some new interpretation of it.

Many artists have done this and always fail.

The current music industry is at the mercy of Youtube etc. Disposable music. Not made to endure.

Time was when bands were given studio time to experiment and come up with something unique.

Now it's just become a money making business. You have to be good looking and marketable.

Was talking to a Black music fan the other day who alerted me with a 'reality-check' saying "you know Nutbush doesn't exist!"
She went on about how when visiting her mother in Dyersburg, she took a drive just 30-mi south to check out 'Tina's town':
Basically she said her 'pilgrimage' to 'Nutbush' was a disappointment, as the song now seemed to be largely fictional.

Yeh, I had a look at the latest Google image theres not much left except the Mill. Big let down from 100 years ago.
The older Google images show a few of the buildings dressed with "Tina Turner" signs guess if they are still there you could blink and miss them. Sad.
