Hi all,

Did anyone have an old TV mains transformer? I'm building the RTV&H 1956 set, and it's one of the few things that I still don't have.

Using a 5AS4 for rectification.

Also, if anyone had an IF strip, tuner, and 5BP1, don't hesitate to email me!!

Do you mean the 17-inch set described in RT&H May 1957?

If so, here is the transformer spec as given by Ferguson back in the day:

Type PF1193

Primary: 200/220/240 50cps
HT secondary: 295-0-295 275mA
LT secondary: 6.3V tapped, 5V 3A, 6.3V 9A

Hi Oli have a look over my 5" TV rebuild in special projects.
Go back to around June 2017 for parts 1 and 2.

in the original I used an overloaded radiogram power transformer and a 5AS4 for the HT.
I tried to make 6H6 work for the EHT but they kept blowing up.
Then I used a HF transistor chopper circuit and that worked most of the time.
The 'stick' rectifiers kept smoking!

For the rebuild I wound a power transformer with adequate ratings and a shorting strip.
Diodes for rectifiers.
I made up a low power EHT cage with a stock replacement EHT transformer.

You might also consider a standard "doubler" valve TV transformer with diodes and electros to suit.

Hello Oli. I have one which you are welcome to if you can collect from Gawler. Also EHT transformer and a few other bits and pieces.
There's also a first generation smallish screen TV which was working when last tried 40 years ago but has not been well stored.

I have skimmed your write-up! But I definitely need to properly read it.

I did think about using 6H6's, but I was reading John's (Cool386.com) article, and he used an RF EHT supply. I went with this route and wound my own Aegis M23 coil. I hope it works!!
