Would anyone have a photograph or diagram of how this model's dial cord is strung?
I have a set, which looks like it has had one section of dial cord replaced in the past. There is a cord tension spring between the two parts ..and I am uncertain whether this is original,... as when you tune it brushes against the back of the volume potentiometer.

Thanks

From what I see there is only one way to string the dial drive, otherwise it will not work. What I see with the wiring is that is may have been rubber sleeved and the wiring of that pot is rather tatty.

Tatty suggests that it may have been removed & an extra nut added on the wiring side, perhaps during a replacement exercise. If so it may need rectification work to move its body forward. The alternative is to replace it with a smaller modern one.

Thanks.
I noticed there were 3-4 washers added to the wiring side of the pot which pushes it back against the dial cord.
I'll adjust the pot.

Hi Nhanwell,

I couldn't find a dial string diagram either but I did find a PDF of a Silicon Chip article on the KM. In the article the photo of the underside of the set shows the dial string with the spring wound onto the rear hole of the tuning shaft and the other end into the fwd hole. This may give you the necessary clearance from the volume pot assuming removing the washers was not successful.

I note that has wooden pulleys, they can be weak. One of my tricks with them, when I find one damaged, Is to slip all (dial cord left alone) & coat them with a thin layer of high strength Araldite. That turns them into a high density timber.

Naturally & commonly, if the bit, or half is missing, one turns anew one from Nylon.

A photo of the dial string run showing the correct positioning of the cord on the tuning shaft. The pot in the photo is still deflecting the cord and seems to have a rub strip glued on it.

Thanks guys. All comments noted. In particular thanks for the tip regards wooden pulleys.
I couldn't see any reason for the 3-4 spacing washers on the volume control other than the spindle on the pot being slightly too long relative to the tuning drive.
I removed the washers and cut about 10mm from the end of the shaft and reinstalled it. All fine now.. there is enough clearance between the pot & the drive cord/spring.
