If it is a "hissy crackle type noise it may have a dud Silver Mica, or a bad connection?cap A real buzzing noise will likely be a switchmode PSU, or a switchmode power supply.

Once a set has been refitted the IF's will move out of calibration (assuming they were not fiddled with to throw them out anyway. Once the IFT's are set you can then reset the aerial & oscillator trimmers etc. after which you will have a better idea of a fault.

Standard length for an aerial was 25 ft. If you are not sure as to the origin of the noise, short out the antenna terminal with a 0.01mfd cap. if it persists it in the set and some times the mains.

Many reflexed sets like Astor JJ & those mentioned have similarities & the tone control has not a lot of relevance at this point.
