Just as a side note of my previous post, I'm trying to identify the this radio/record player I'm restoring and the only identifying marks I can find is "HM 1439" stamped into the metal chassis. Is this the model number? The wooden cabinet also has "10 48" (the two numbers are about an inch apart) stamped into the upper left corner of the back.. I'm guessing this means the cabinet was manufactured in Oct 1948?
The best feature on this unit I feel is the rotating drum in the station selector wheel where you can choose the state.
If there is any way I can find more information on this unit, It would be greatly appreciated.
More of a newbie question, but in regards to the two letter codes such as SM,CH, UW shown in my radio's dial glass, are these the same as the stations I remember as a kid (2KO, 2UE, etc) except without the preceding number?

Yep, just station callsigns without the number prefix.
Just a note regarding information on specific models, by all means, do post questions requesting information though I just wanted to put on record a note of disappointment in the amount (or lack thereof) of vintage radio information on the web. There is a dire need for far more information on all Australian makes and models. If anyone knows of a good site that I don't have listed in the service directory or the links pages please post a suggestion in the General Comments forum with the URL and I will review the site with an intention to add it's link here directly.

I have two Astor Mickeys, see the green one in the right column, I have also a white one of the same model and also one each of white and green AWA Radiolette like the one above the green Astor and two brown ones. I was lucky with the green Radiolette. I scored that from an antique shop, of all places, for $80. I have seen two of them go for over $600 on Ebay. Needless to say, there is no way I am going to sell it! I also have a Fisk Radiola console though it needs restoring - I might look at that over Christmas - I do wish I had more time because I do have many sets but no time to play with them.

Hi, yes it's sorry to not see more info about old valve radios in Australia. My grandfather owned the AWA radio store in Albury during the 1940's, and I remember playing with all the old spare radio's in my nan's shed as a kid, everything is gone now. Brad, I am trying to identify an Astor bakelite 4 valve radio that has a tone knob, could you email me so I can send you a picture?
