Hi , I would like some info please. I just purchased a Kriesler 11-103 and everything works fine except low sound coming out of speakers when playing a record. The record player is a garrard 50 mk2.I asked my dad what he thinks this may be and he thinks it could be the stylist headshell or the volume control as it crackles when turning up or down.Any thoughts and help would be greatly appreciated. The radio works perfectly just the record player volume does not go up but it can be heard slightly through the speakers if you play with the volume. Thanks

Could be a dud cartridge which is the bit that the stylus sits in and which has the electrical connections on the back of it.
This a brutal approach so don't do it with the volume control cranked up: Lightly prick the stylus with your fingernail, there should be a strong audible thump in the speakers.
If no thump, then tap the wires on the back of the cartridge with a small screwdriver while you have a finger on the screwdriver's shaft. This should result in loud hum in the speakers.
If not, then the problem is either in the pick-up cabling, or in the amplifier section.
The volume control is common to both modes of operation: radio and gramophone. If it crackles then it's either worn out or has some dust in it. A quick squirt of electrical contact cleaner into it usually deals with dirt, otherwise it needs to be replaced.

This does not per chance have as secret switch marked BC SW Gram?
If the volume control works on radio.... fine;, it's not that.
However, if it is getting scratchy and circuit board cleaner, or CRC 2-26 does not sort out it's carry on, get rid of it.
If it's one of those cartridges that rotate in the headshell, for 78's & the rest? The wires can break & short, due to the constant movement.
HMV used Plessey/Garrard turntables the one in the R53B is a magnetic type with some form of transformer arrangement. Info in AORSM's in HMV.

Marc raises a good point about the radio/gram changeover switch. Dirty contacts on that can attenuate signal. Give that a good spray with electrical contact cleaner.
